A woman who was found fatally shot Tuesday in a La Presa home was killed by her ex-husband, who was later found dead in San Clemente, sheriff’s officials said.
Christopher Bird, 39, is accused of shooting Ashley Bird, 35, in the head at his home on La Presa Avenue, north of Jamacha Boulevard, sheriff’s Lt. Michael Krugh said. The two men were separated at the time of the shooting, he said.
Authorities said the shooting was reported as a break-in around 10:25 a.m. When officers arrived at the home, they found Bird lying on a couch, injured. She died before she could be transported to hospital.
Christopher Bird’s description was then sent to several law enforcement agencies in and around San Diego County, Krugh said. Orange County sheriff’s deputies found the suspect dead later that day in his vehicle at Calafia Beach Park in San Clemente, Krugh said.
His cause of death will be determined by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
Krugh said the matter remains under investigation. No further details were immediately available.
