Woman brutally stabbed and nearly thrown over railing at Florida airport, police say

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times at Miami International Airport Saturday night, causing chaos in the terminal.

The stabbing occurred around 11:33 p.m. on the fourth floor of Terminal J, in international arrivals.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, a man stabbed the woman multiple times and tried to throw her over the railing. Fortunately, she was able to escape and ran to the third floor where officers found her.

Police said they received reports of a possible active shooter. The incident caused operations at the airport to be halted until authorities could determine the chaos was caused by the stabbing.

“There is no impact to airport operations, and this is an isolated incident,” Miami-Dade police spokesman Angel Rodriguez said.

The suspect was arrested in the terminal where the attack took place. Police also recovered the knife used in the attack.

A passenger spoke to WTVJ and said she and her family had an argument before the chaos broke out.

“We heard the fight escalate and someone said run,” said Dana, a Delta Airlines passenger. “When they said run, we all ran.”

Authorities are trying to determine the relationship between the suspect and the woman. The reason for the attack is unclear at this time. It is also unclear whether the two were passengers.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Operations at the airport have since returned to normal.
