A 35-year-old woman and two of her children, who were walking, were killed on Saturday afternoon in the south of Brooklyn after two cars collided and a pedestrian crossing was sparked, police said.
The identity of the victims has not yet been released by the authorities, but during a press conference on Saturday, the police confirmed that the woman and two children, girls aged 6 and 8, had died immediately after the collision. Woman’s 4 -year -old son was injured in the accident and was transported to the Maimonides medical center in the borough park in critical condition, police said.
A total of 10 people, including six children, were taken to neighboring hospitals after the collision.
Mayor Eric Adams, who spoke during the press conference, described the event “a tragic and tragic accident of a Shakespearean proportion”.
“It’s extremely worrying and painful,” he said. “A mother who was going for a simple walk by a sunny day was struck and killed.”
According to the authorities’ first reports, the accident occurred just after 1 p.m. when a silver Toyota Camry carrying two adults and three children collided with an Audi A3 Bleue sedan at the intersection of Quentin Road and Ocean Parkway, on the border of the Gravesend and Midwood districts.
The 62-year-old man leading the Toyota was trying to turn right on Ocean Parkway and had just turned into an intersection when the rear bumper of his car was struck by the Audi. The impact of the collision pushed his car to the side, while the Audi turned forward, hitting the woman and her children before turning, the police said.
