‘Wolf Man’ earns $1.4 million in previews

It’s a full moon at the box office.

Universal and Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” reboot has grossed $1.4 million so far in Thursday previews. Opening this weekend, it goes up against Sony’s comedy “One of Them Days,” which has grossed $1.3 million in previews.

“Wolf Man,” helmed by “The Invisible Man” director Leigh Whannell and starring Christopher Abbott, is expected to break out and earn between $17 million and $21 million in its opening weekend over the weekend. end Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. “One of Them Days,” an R-rated comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA (in her acting debut), is on track to earn between $8 million and $13 million between Friday and Monday.

Universal returns to its library of classic monsters with “Wolf Man,” following the success of Whannell’s reboot of “The Invisible Man” with a $28.2 million opening after making $1.65 million in previews . The 2020 horror film ended up grossing $143 million worldwide. “Wolf Man” only cost $25 million, so it should be able to make a profit at the box office. In addition to Abbott, Ozark star Julia Garner plays the terrified wife of a man who turns into a lycanthrope.

“One of Them Days,” a rare theatrical comedy, stars Palmer and Grammy winner SZA as two best friends who go to outrageous lengths to scrounge up enough rent money to avoid the expulsion. It is produced by Issa Rae and also stars Katt Williams, Janelle James, Maude Apatow and more. Macro Film Studios co-financed the film, and it cost just $14 million to produce, setting an easy bar for success.
