Wisconsin woman made a plea deal for neglecting her 5-year-old son until his death and hiding his body in the trunk of her car for months
Sagal Hussein, 26, did not make any challenges Tuesday to Brown County Circuit Court on charges of child neglect resulting in death, concealment of a child’s corpse and neglect, WLUK reported -TV. Prosecutors have dropped five more charges in exchange for his plea and his sentence is set for December 7.
The most serious offense, child neglect resulting in death, carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
According to court documents, Hussein’s son Josias Marquez was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. He used a wheelchair, was blind, and depended on others for food. He was not receiving proper medical care and Hussein was not giving him his seizure medication.
He was last seen on November 25, 2019. An investigation began after a neighbor reported seeing Hussein’s two other children outside unsupervised. Investigators found his body in a sports bag in the trunk of Hussein’s car in March 2020. The boy was mummified and severely malnourished, according to the medical examiner.
