Winners and losers of NASCAR Cup and Xfinity races on the streets of Chicago

CHICAGO — A look at the winners and losers from the Chicago Street Race weekend.

WINNERS

Alex Bowman — He ended an 80-race winless streak and felt a huge sense of relief: “I’ve overcome everything that’s happened to me in life over the last two years. It’s been really tough, hasn’t it? The concussion and breaking my back straight after I got over that, and then having a really tough time last year and getting a bit lost, it was really tough.”

He pushes back a charging Tyler Reddick to take the win.

Tyler Reddick — Although frustrated at not being able to catch Alex Bowman to challenge him for the lead at the end, Reddick’s second-place finish was his sixth top-10 in the last seven races.

Ty Gibbs — His third-place finish on Sunday is the fourth time he has finished in the top five in the last five road course events.

Joey Main — He finished fourth with the third RFK Racing car. It was the first start of the year for the road racing specialist.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. — His sixth place is his third top 10 in the last four races.

Todd Gilliland — His seventh place is his ninth consecutive top 20 finish and his best result over that period.

Shane van Gisbergen — His performance in Saturday’s Xfinity race and his duel with Kyle Larson was fantastic. SVG then took that win.

LOSERS

Shane van Gisbergen — Contact with Chase Briscoe sent SVG into the wall early in Sunday’s Cup race and he finished last in the 40-car field.

Kyle Larson — His car hit the Turn 6 tyre barriers hard and damaged the front end, leaving him in 39th place.

Chris Buescher: “We didn’t need another winner. But it’s not going to change the way we approach our weeks.”

Chris Buescher — Alex Bowman’s victory moved Buescher into the final playoff spot with six races remaining in the regular season.

Christophe Bell — He once again had one of the strongest cars, but he couldn’t get back into the field late in the race as some cars stayed on wet tires, and then his car was damaged by contact in the closing laps. Bell, who led 14 laps, finished 37th. That gives him 36th and 37th since his win in New Hampshire.
