Willy Adames extends HR streak to 5 games, tying Brewers record

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames extended his home run streak to five games to tie a team record with a three-run home run in the first inning of Monday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Adames’ home run was hit off Cardinals starting pitcher Andre Pallante for his 29th of the season and, coincidentally, came on his 29th birthday.

Adames tied the record set by Jeromy Burnitz in 1997 and Eric Thames in 2017 as the only players in franchise history to accomplish the feat.

It was also Adames’ 13th three-run home run of the season, joining Ken Griffey Jr. (1996) as the only players in major league history to hit a three-run home run. Sammy Sosa, Tino Martinez and Hall of Famer Roy Campanella each hit 12 three-run home runs in a single season.

The soon-to-be free agent has started all 138 games for the National League Central-leading Brewers.
