Beyond its underwater abilities, the Toyota Land Cruiser is known for its sustainability. Thus, when Toyota introduced a brand new Land Cruiser, we naturally wondered how this new model would be measured against its predecessors. Today, we are examining what to expect in terms of reliability of the new Cruiser Land Cruiser.
Since the Land Cruiser was reintroduced for the 2024 model yearLimited data is available for analysis. When evaluating the reliability of a new vehicle, it may be tempting to refer to the recording of reliability of the previous generation. Unfortunately, as the previous generation of Land Cruiser ceased production in 2021 and was built on a different platform with a different powertrain, the reliability of the older SUV cannot predict with precision how the new model will behave. Therefore, we use information from Toyota and related Lexus products to shed light on our reliability prediction.
For this research, we mainly supported the reliability data of consumer reports, which conducts an annual reliability study based on the experiences of its readers with their vehicles. The publication notes that it generally has a sample size of 200 to 400 vehicles for each model per year of model to adequately generate a reliability rating for this vehicle. We have also referred to the incidents declared by the owner submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Shared components of the new Land Cruiser
To guide our research, let’s examine the components that the Land Cruiser shares with other Toyota and Lexus models. From the powertrain, the Toyota Land Cruiser has an online cylinder engine of 2.4 liters turbocharged 326 horsepower. It is the same hybrid powertrain present in the higher finish levels of the new Toyota Tacoma and the New long -awaited and redesigned Toyota 4Runner. When equipped with the hybrid powertrain, Tacoma and 4runner use the same eight -speed automatic transmission as the Land Cruiser.
Formerly a “twin” in Lexus LX, the newly reduced Land Cruiser now aligns with the Lexus GX. However, the GX has a different powertrain and uses a 10 -speed automatic transmission instead of the 8 -speed automatic Land Cruiser.
Built on the same TNGA-F truck platform as Lexus GX, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Sequoia and Toyota Tundra are the main models to consider in a comparative data. However, neither the Sequoia nor the Lexus GX had enough data available for the consumer reports survey, and the 4runner is new for 2025, which means that it is also lacking in sufficient data. Therefore, we focus on the reliability of consumer reports for Tacoma and tundra.
Comparison of the reliability files of the Tacoma and the Tundra
For the Toyota Tacoma, redesigned for 2024, we start by examining its reliability of the powertrain. Since one of the three Tacoma motorcycle groups is the Max I-Force hybrid also found in the Land Cruiser, the collection of data on this specific powertrain is precious. Unfortunately, Consumer Reports provides a general reliability rating of the powertrain for Tacoma but does not decompose it by the type of engine. However, Consumer Reports awarded the Tacoma a reliability score of the Motopropheur group “better than the average”, which is encouraging.
Redensive for the year of the 2022 model, the Toyota Tundra was faced with most of the problems in its first two years, but the 2024 model has improved considerably, reaching a higher reliability score. Concerns such as brakes, body equipment, painting, garnishes, noises and leaks were widespread in the first years, but would have improved considerably in the 2024 model. Overall, there was a significant improvement in reliability, in particular in terms of construction quality, for the tundra of the 2024 model year. Model 2024 of the Land Cruiser meets increasing pain in first year models, years of subsequent model can demonstrate improvements similar to those observed with tundra.
Considering the recall data of the NHTSA
Beyond consumer reports, another measure to predict the reliability of the Land Cruiser comes from the data reported by the owner submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In addition to carrying out collision tests, the NHTSA monitors vehicle defects thanks to a three -step approach: complaint, survey and recall.
The Land Cruiser 2024 filed 19 complaints on its NHTSA page, as well as 0 surveys and 0 recall. As a reference framework, the Toyota Venza sold in similar numbers in 2024 was in its fourth year model and had 17 complaints reported. Thus, the number of complaints on the Land Cruiser is not particularly high, especially since 2024 was its first model year for this design.
Toyota sold 29,113 terrestrial cruisers in 2024. Of the 19 complaints of owners declared by 19 NHTS, there were 10 complaints concerning braking problems, in particular the brakes that have grinked down when the vehicle is reversed. The next most common complaint has been linked to transmission, including difficult demodations. For the Land Cruiser 2025, there have been seven complaints so far, four of which are linked to the brakes. Again, this is a common theme. However, nothing has changed an NHTSA survey, and there is currently no recall for the Croisters of Land d’AnnĂ© model 2024 or 2025.
Toyota brand reliability
When people think “toyota”, one of the first things that comes to mind is the brand’s impressive reliability record. According to the reliability study of American vehicles of JD Power 2025, which used data from 2022 vehicles of the model year, after three years of ownership, Toyota and its luxury division, Lexus, have exceptionally performed well. Lexus had the fewest problems for 100 vehicles, while Toyota ranked fourth in the general classification. Meanwhile, Consumer Reports also assessed Lexus and Toyota strongly in the reliability of the brands, Lexus ranked second and Toyota ranked third among the 22 brands. Even more impressive, 8 of the 13 vehicles most likely to last 200,000 miles or moreAccording to Consumer Reports, are Toyotas. Thus, on the basis of the history of its brand reliability, we could assume that the Land Cruiser will work well.
The purchase of a vehicle during its first model year can cause concerns for many buyers. Fortunately, the new Land Cruiser is now in its second year model and uses the TNGA-F Truck platform, which is in its fourth year model. Although we cannot count on consumer data for the new Land Cruiser, the Tundra reliability rating has demonstrated a significant improvement since its overhaul in 2022, and the tacoma motorcycle group has performed well. Although there is never a reliability guarantee, given the impressive record of the Toyota brand, the decades of experience of the company to produce hybrid motorcycle groups and the absence of NHTSA surveys or reminders, there are reasons to be optimistic that the reputation of the Land Cruiser in sustainability persists in this generation.
