Wildwood, New Jersey boardwalk reopens after state of emergency lifted – NBC10 Philadelphia

The boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey, reopened early Monday after seeing access to the popular Memorial Day beachgoer destination restricted overnight due to the declaration of a state of emergency.

Around 5:30 a.m., police lifted the state of emergency, saying it ended after “the City of Wildwood was able to effectively deal with numerous incidents of civil unrest and violence.” ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.”

The restriction on access to the parkway was put in place after midnight early Monday due to what police called “civil unrest threatening the public health, safety and welfare of our residents and our visitors.”

However, Wildwood officials did not cite any specific incident as the reason for the earlier declaration of a state of emergency.

Monday morning, NBC10’s Brenna Weick was on scene as officers removed tape that had cordoned off the boardwalk overnight.

NBC10 is still working to determine if a specific incident caused this state of emergency declaration and what impact, if any, it may have had on businesses along the parkway.

The boardwalk’s closure follows an incident Saturday in Ocean City, New Jersey, where crowds fled in panic after a teenager was stabbed on the boardwalk.
