Wife’s disturbing Facebook post just days before her husband, a high-flying fire lieutenant, killed her and himself in a shock murder-suicide

The wife of a Florida fire lieutenant shared a disturbing Facebook post just days before her husband killed them both in a shocking murder-suicide, leaving behind four young children they shared.

Andrea Nicole Yarbrough, 34, shared a table of statistics detailing the number of emergency calls during the month of April for the St. Johns County Fire Department, which totaled more than 3,200.

She added a caption indicating perhaps that all was not well at home with her husband and implied that he was very stressed.

“This is why all of our loved ones are exhausted and never function 100% at home,” Andrea wrote.

Shawn Yarbrough, 46, was a prominent lieutenant in the fire department, where he was hired twenty years ago, in March 2004. Before being promoted to lieutenant, Shawn worked as an engineer in the department.

Both men were found dead in the bathroom of their home in St. Augustine, Florida.

Police went to the family home after Andrea’s mother requested a welfare check when she was unable to contact her.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office determined that although the circumstances of Shawn’s death indicated a suicide, Andrea’s death appeared to be the result of a homicide.

It is believed the couple’s children were not home at the time of the shooting.

The couple had just celebrated their first anniversary and created a blended family of four children.

The three boys were from Shawn’s previous marriage while the girl was from Andrea’s previous marriage.

The couple’s Facebook pages do little to hide the problems the couple may have encountered at home.

Social media shows a life well lived with the couple and their four young children taken on excursions and participating in mundane daily life.

Shawn and Andrea, who worked as a financial manager, took their children to baseball games.

In recent months, the kids have also taken several family vacations, including a trip to Texas earlier in June and a ski trip to North Carolina in March.

Social media posts appeared to show the couple was married and had four children.

The kids recently celebrated one of their siblings’ 14th birthday with a paintball party.

The parents appeared actively involved in their children’s lives, enjoying days together, with family photos showing happy faces all around.

Suffice it to say, neighbors were shocked to hear the news of the couple’s deaths, with one resident explaining they were a ‘nice, typical family’.

“They are really nice people and really laid back. Just really genuine people,” the incredulous neighbor told News4Jax.

He added that he never heard any arguments or saw evidence of a domestic disturbance.

“I didn’t even know they had problems. As (other) neighbors said, “they are like a normal family.”

At a press conference later in the week, the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it was a murder-suicide and called the gruesome scene an “isolated tragic incident.”

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Wendolyn Sneed told Historic City News that Andrea Yarbrough’s cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of her death was determined to be homicide.

Shawn and Andrea Yarbrough were married in December 2022 and purchased the house in which their bodies would later be found in August of that year.

Andrea had worked for Graybar in Jacksonville as a financial planner, starting her career there in 2019.

Olivia Marvin, Andrea’s younger sister, said her four children were the light of her life.

“Andrea meant everything to everyone in our family and everyone she met. Everyone who knew her knew she would never give up, no matter how hard things got,” Marvin told ActionNewsJax.

“We are so crushed. We thought everything was finally going to fall into place. She was so proud of all her children and what they did. She always strived and wanted the best for everyone.

The head of the fire department, Chief Sean McGee, released a statement referring to the couple’s deaths.

“The recently reported events were unexpected, shocking and tragic for everyone affected.

“As a department, we are deeply saddened by the loss of life, recognizing its lasting impact on the families and children of those affected,” remarked Chief McGee.

The fire chief concluded: “My sincere prayers and deepest condolences go out to the victims, their families and friends who are grieving following these events.”

On Facebook, Shawn Yarbrough appears to be a true family man and posts numerous photos of himself with his wife and children.

Less than two weeks before the murder-suicide, he uploaded a photo of himself smiling next to his wife with the caption: “Sometimes we dress up.”

In an article published earlier this year, Shawn bragged about his children’s academic success, which he attributed to his wife’s efforts.

“Reports came out a few days ago,” he wrote. “The children are still doing very well, even with the advanced/specialized courses. Thank you Andrea for all the effort and dedication to the children’s success.

Family members started a GoFundMe for Andrea’s 11-year-old daughter, Lily.

“She is eleven years old and she still has her whole life ahead of her. “Lily finds herself suddenly and temporarily without the security of her mother, without health insurance and, at this time, the family is unsure of what life insurance or benefits she might be entitled to,” it reads. on the fundraising page.

Lily and her dog, Marsh, have to move in with her grandparents for the time being.
