“ Wicked ‘part 2’ for good ‘: trailer, casting, release date

The first film “Wicked” is already as long as Broadway’s original, but only covers half of the program’s intrigue. The second film, “Wicked: For Good”, scheduled for November 21, 2025 will end the story.

“Wicked”, the musical, is the second most profitable Broadway show of all time. The intrigue follows Elphaba’s original story, the wicked witch of the West, a character from the 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz”.

The film version of “Wicked” features Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Michelle Yeoh. Although the recent adaptations of film musical cinema like “Cats” and “West Side Story” by Steven Spielberg were not successful at the box office, “Wicked” has challenged gravity and won $ 744 million worldwide, by Mojo to the box office.

Marc Platt, who produced the film “Wicked” and stage production, said that he was initially planning that the story was a film but changed his mind after talking to Stephen Schwartz, who composed the music and the lyrics of the stage musical.

The cast, the director and the crew all have shared reasons to divide “Wicked” into two films.

The director of the film Jon Chu and his producer March Platt declared in interviews that they did not want to pile up or cut songs or characters to integrate the story into a film.

Erivo told Entertainment Weekly in February 2024 that the split allowed more space to develop the friendship and rivalry of his character with Glinda The Good Witch, played by Grande.

A fans newsletter, “The Schwartz Scene”, reported that the composer said there should be a break after “Defying Gravity”, the final song of the first act of the musical.

“We found it very difficult to move on to the” defying gravity “without interruption,” he said. “This song is written specifically to bring down a curtain, and whatever the scene to follow it without a break seemed just extremely anti-climatic.”

In 2023 Schwartz told the now missing site, The Messenger, that the second part will include new original songs written for the film.

“The narration demanded it, and therefore they were created-the intention was that they were organic and not imposed on the film,” he said.

The two parts of “Wicked” have been filmed simultaneously and all the stars of the first film will return under the suite. This also makes it unlikely that the future can be delayed by production problems and should arrive on time next November.

The title of the suite is appointed from the song of the act two “for good” “interpreted by Elphaba and Glinda.

The first film adapts the first act of Broadway musical, explaining how Elphaba has become the wicked witch.

She and her younger sister Nessarose meet at Shiz University, a magical school in the world of Oz, but Elphaba is forced to share a room with a self-absorbed student called Glinda.

The pair is bickering until they become friends. At the same time, the two women fall in love with Prince Fiyreo Tiggular, and Elphaba learns that someone is trying to caginate Oz animals and prevents them from talking.

Later in the film, Elphaba is invited to meet the sovereign of the sorcerer of Oz and brings Galinda, who now goes by Glinda.

They learn that The Wizard is a crook and that he and Madame Morrible, a magic teacher in Shiz, are behind the conspiracy against speaking animals.

They want to use Elphaba’s powers to help their intrigue because it is chosen from Oz, not the sorcerer – she can read a special spell book called Gramerie.

But Elphaba steals the book instead and leaves Emerald City, leaving behind Glinda, who still believes in the sorcerer.

The second film will cover the second act, taking place a few years after the first. In this act, the story connects to the intrigue of “The Wizard of Oz”, that viewers could be more familiar with the 1939 film.

Glinda and Madame Morrible are part of the sorcerer’s administration, and Fiyero is the head of a hunting team for Elphaba.

Nessarose has become a cruel governor of Munchkinland and won the title of the wicked witch in the East.

Elphaba, now known as the wicked witch of the West, tries to do good for animals and people of Oz, but his magic and actions continue to harm his loved ones.

When her sister is crushed and killed by Dorothy’s house, she promises to become really nasty. This establishes her character as the witch describes in the book and the film “The Wizard of Oz”.

There are no new characters in act two, except Dorothy, who is normally not played by a character on stage.
