Why this Detroit restaurant closed after 36 years in business

DETROIT – Detroit’s Rattlesnake Club restaurant has closed its doors for good after 36 years in business.

“We are grateful for the support of our loyal customers over the years. We are especially grateful for the loyal service of our dedicated employees,” Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mark Tuttle said in a statement.

The restaurant opened in 1988. Tuttle said the business was unable to recover after the COVID pandemic.

“Changing dining habits, office occupancy and traffic patterns have negatively impacted revenue since the COVID pandemic. Private events, which have always been a mainstay of the business, have not recovered,” Tuttle said.

Tuttle said employees were notified of the closure on Saturday, June 29, and were offered severance pay.
