Why the warriors keep the injury of Gary Payton II “difficult”, by doctor – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

The Guerrier Guardian Gary Payton will be sidelined for the next few days as he continues to cope with a partial tear of a ligament in his left thumb.

It was excluded from the Friday match against the Pélicans in New Orleans and will be reassessed next Thursday. While he rehabilitates the injury to his left shooting hand, Dr Seth Sherman by Stanford Medicine explained why the path to recovery could be difficult.

“It is obviously difficult for shooters when it is your left thumb, it’s extremely important,” said Dr. Sherman in the NBC Sports Bay region. “Of course, you can move and play different roles while helping a team and protecting yourself. Defensively, of course, but there is no bypass of basketball dribble, shooting and, there is a difference between a stable partial injury where we can live our life and do things that do that some of us do every day and be in the NBA and play at this high level.

“So, this could lead to a little variability in the waste of time, but nevertheless, I do not think that it changes the ultimate prognosis, the meaning, the injuries that have proven to be partial, stable, if in fact, this is what it is, generally something that can be treated in a conservative way.”

Payton II was a key element in the rotation of coach Steve Kerr who has proven to work lately. In 58 games this season, he has an average of 6.6 points, 3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game on 58.5% shooting on the field and 33% at 3 points in 14.9 minutes of the bench.

The 32 -year -old has recently undergone a NOT TRAVED NO NOVE In the Warriors’ victory over the Charlotte Hornets on March 3 and played with a mask for the nine previous games, he was active before his thumb injury.

Dr. Sherman explained that his potential return will depend on the definition of the exact injury and when she happened, noting that this could be a positive sign that Payton II played by the injury in Tuesday’s match.

“He was able to finish the game, which speaks somewhat in terms of gravity,” said Dr. Sherman. “I am sure they have done a meticulous physical exam. Rays X and perhaps an MRI, which helps to refine the diagnosis. Of all the accounts, if it is a wound to the tolerance to the quote pain, I think it is a reassuring declaration.

“This means that it is not a huge complete and or surgical or unstable injury. So, the associated waste of time could be less. I think that short -term re -evaluation is in a way the plan, non -surgical treatments for the moment. Spline, working on a range of movement, swelling the performances, and then, you know, if it is really a stable partial, with the way back, with the return performance, in the short term. “

After New Orleans Friday, the Warriors will visit the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers to finish a six-game road trip before returning home to face the Denver Nuggets on April 4.
