BOSTON — There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony, but he hasn’t bought into it.
Anthony jumped to Triple-A and earned the No. 1 spot on Baseball America’s top prospects list last year. The 20-year-old is expected to compete for a spot on Boston’s opening day roster.
“Really not. I don’t even think it matters, to be honest,” Anthony said Tuesday. “I haven’t done anything in the big leagues yet. I just can’t wait to get there and help this team win.”
Anthony was in Boston for Trevor Story’s offseason camp, Fenway Fest — where he received a hilarious comparison — and the Red Sox development camp. He commented on how much he learned from the great players, but also noted that there was no timetable for him. The outfield prospect admitted he has every confidence in the front office to prepare him for success.
The 2022 second-round pick hit three home runs and collected 20 RBIs on a .983 OPS in 35 games with Triple-A Worcester last season. He will look to build on his success in 2024 and hopes to make an impact on Alex Cora’s side.
