The Saudi Pro League makes waves with a monumental transfer pack of 300 million euros aimed at attracting Vinicius Junior far from Real Madrid this summer. The reported sum would break all the records in the history of football, exceeding the best transfer of 222 million euros which saw Neymar Junior moving from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
It is not clear which club would have Vinicius if the agreement takes place, but al-Hilal is preferred to land the footballer, according to reports.
While the Saudi offer represents an astounding sum of money, the probability that such a transfer passes is very questionable for several reasons, mainly the unshakable position of Real Madrid, the personal objectives of Vinicius and the unique nature of the agreement propose.
At the heart of the problem is the firm position of Real Madrid concerning Vinicius Junior. According to a Diario like Report, the club is resolved in its reluctance to entertain all the offers under the liberation clause of 1 billion euros of the player. Despite the financial temptations of Saudi Arabia, Los Blancos clearly indicated that they did not intend to separate from their star player unless Vinicius himself pushes for a movement.
In fact, the Real Madrid strategy is to lock Vinicius with an improved contract. Its current agreement takes place until 2027, and the club seeks to discuss an extension of contract and a salary increase at the end of this season. Vinicius, who recently received the best male player in FIFA in 2024, is undoubtedly one of the most popular assets in world football. Selling it not only to create a massive hole in the attack on Madrid, but also would weaken their global brand.
Vinicius Junior is currently at the top of his career, having firmly imposed as one of the best attackers. To move to the Saudi Pro League, whatever the lucrative of the offer, would mean moving away from the competitive elite of European football, a decision that many players to their peak are reluctant to make.
From a football point of view, Vinicius is probably more focused on the continuation of competing for major trophies with Real Madrid rather than on the way that would see him leaving one of the most prestigious clubs for a less competitive league despite the awards financial being undeniably enormous.
