Jamie Foxx reveals new details about the unspecified “medical complication” he experienced last year.
In an undated video circulating on social media, posted by accounts including @ArtOfDialogue_, the Oscar winner appears to discuss the circumstances surrounding the health scare, which set him on a months-long road to recovery, with some fans.
Foxx, 56, said in the video that on April 11, 2023, he had a “severe headache” and “asked my son for an Advil.” Then “I was out for 20 days.”
He continued: “I don’t remember anything. I’m in Atlanta… My sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. They gave me a cortisone shot. The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there.'”
Foxx pointed to his head before explaining that he wouldn’t go into details “on camera.”

Jamie Foxx Promises to Explain Health Scare ‘in a Funny Way’
In March, Foxx hinted at his 2023 health concerns while accepting the Producers’ Award at the African American Film Critics Association awards luncheon.
“Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you, but I’m going to do it my way,” Foxx said, according to a video of the speech posted on YouTube. “I’m going to do it in a funny way.”
Foxx also teased a return to the stage, sharing an old clip of his stand-up comedy set on Instagram and telling fans he “plans to bring more moments” like those.
“I’m going to be on someone’s stage near you,” Foxx wrote. “I have jokes and a story to tell.”

What happened to Jamie Foxx?
After sharing several recovery updates on Instagram, Foxx made his first major public appearance in December to accept the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Film and Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements.
At the time, he revealed he “couldn’t actually walk” six months earlier.
“I feel good here,” he said. “I cherish every minute now. It’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it’s hard when it’s almost over. (…) I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel too; I don’t know where I was going.”
Foxx joked: “Am I going to the right place? I see the devil saying, ‘Go.'”
On April 12, his daughter Corinne Foxx revealed that the “Ray” actor “suffered a medical complication” and was recovering.
“Thankfully, thanks to quick intervention and good care, he is already on the mend,” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. “We know how much he is loved and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”
Several months later, in July, Jamie Foxx posted a video on social media to prove to his fans that he was on the mend.
“I didn’t want you to see me with tubes coming out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it,” he said in a July 21 Instagram post. “I’ve been to hell and back, and my road to recovery has been rocky as well, but I’m coming back.”
He added: “It’s been tough, man, I’ve been sick. But now I’ve got my legs back, so you’re gonna see me.”
