Why must choose James O’Connor and Kurtley Beale controversial to eliminate Lions – and three other stars that can knock out tourists this summer

It has been 12 years since controversial veterans James O’Connor and Kurtley Beale met the best of Great Britain and Ireland, but they were supported to make another brutal impression against the Lions this summer.

O’Connor is 34 years old and played the test rugby in 2022 for the last time. He was opened on his past problems with drugs and alcohol, spending two nights in a Paris prison in 2017, among several other incidents. After looking for professional help, O’Connor is currently playing with the Crusaders of New Zealand Super Rugby and hopes an Australian return.

Beale, 36, is not foreign to first -page titles either. Last year, he was found not guilty of a woman’s sexual assault in Sydney. He has not played international rugby since 2021, but was appointed to the Schmidt team last summer before undergoing a serious Achilles injury from which he has just recovered.

And for the Grand Matt Giteau of Wallabies, his two former teammates still have a lot to offer the head coach of Australia Joe Schmidt for their highly anticipated series with the Lions of Andy Farrell despite their years in advance, their injury records and their out-of-field problems.

“ It would be incredible if it was involved again and even more if he was part of a winning lions series ” said the ambassador of Resmed Giteau Sport Mail d’O’Connor. “He added so much to the crusaders. He leaves the bench and shows a lot of confidence in the closing of the games. He launched a few big kicks in key moments.

“Even if it is not the 10 start, having it in the team like someone, you can bounce back would be beneficial because it has already experienced a lions series at home.

“He may have sometimes made mistakes in his preparation, so now he can help young players may not be to do the same. Having this kind of experience can only be a good thing for the team.

Beale has 95 Australia caps, eight unless there is a cottage and five less than the 14th century of testing his country – and the first Aboriginal man to do so. During the Lions’ first test in 2013, he almost won the match for his country, but his left foot slipped as he aligned a last minute penalty that would have sealed the victory in Brisbane. The Lions won this 2-1 series.

Giteau added Beale: “It all depends on what Joe wants and the style he wants to play, as if Kurtley has had enough minutes to his credit. He is a phenomenal player and a great person.

“With the challenges he has gone through, it is always impressive to play on the highest stage. If it is not involved in the Lions, I hope it goes on Northern tour and obtains 100 caps. He would be the first indigenous man to obtain 100 caps for Australia and I know that it would mean a lot for him. I think that is something he deserves.

“Kurtley is a constant speaker. He and James would offer another very experienced ball player who can give advice and share the charge. During a match, they offer so much.

For his part, head coach Schmidt suggested that there may well be a place for O’Connor in his team for the Lions.

“It would bring experience in the group, a little versatility,” he said. “It is a very inexperienced group and James would bring this experience.”

The chances that he and Beale are involved may well depend on the duration of the key Wallaby Joseph Sua’ali’i and Noah Lolesio to recover from an injury.

Sua’Ali’i is a doubt to face the Lions because it should be absent for at least a month after needing surgery on a fractured jaw. No 10 Lolesio is also currently on the sidelines. And O’Connor and Beale also have the invaluable capacity to play several positions in great line.

“Wallabies have a very, very good team full of confident players,” said Giteau. “We certainly have the team to do so. They should keep the lions to guess. I expect these three tests to be dynamite. The excitement is enormous.

Giteau was impressed by the team of 38 men appointed by the Lions Farrell head coach earlier this month-a captain by Maro Itoje in England and who included the revolutionary feeling Henry Pollock.

“Unfortunately, from an Australian point of view, the lions seem strong,” said Giteau. “But Wallabia players do not play with fear. This is strengthening how great a coach Joe is and how he has transformed the team from the World Cup.

On Northampton Tyro Pollock, 20, Giteau added: “I looked a lot of him. For the moment, he talks about the city with what he can do and the way he plays. Even the way he spoke before Northampton-Leinster’s match was as if he was hosting the challenge.

“It’s impressive for a young child. He has a little boastful and character that rugby needs. Everyone just wants to follow the line.

“But guys like Pollock are perfect for the game. He’s fast and strong. I think he will learn a lot about this tour, especially surrounded by so many senior guys. This will help bring your game to another level. I just hope that it will only happen after the Australian series!

“Everyone is a fair game when you are there and competing. It is not personal. I do not think that Australia will set up a match plan to upset the young child because they have a whole team to worry. But on the ground, there are always garbage – a little s *** and niggle.

Joseph sua’ali’i

Age: 21 years old

Position: Center

The injuries are part of the game. We will love if there was no injury from an Australian point of view because our depth is probably not as good as what the Lions have. Being able to play as he did during his first test against England simply shows the confidence he has. Joe said to Joseph, “You have a certain competence, so go for it and show that.” It is a phenomenal athlete and a very high -end child.

Len Ikitau

Age: 26

Position: Center

I am a big fan. He played 12 on the Northern Tour, but he is playing 13 for the Brumbies at the moment and signed for a sabbatical leave to play for them next season. I call him “Len Flickita” because of the pass he made against England in Twickenham. This game was in the scale and what I liked was that he had a big game.

Rob Valetini

Age: 26

Position: No 8

He is a phenomenal player, a brilliant and powerful bungeer that gives Wallabies very well move forward. He played the first half of the Super Rugby season and is now playing coherent and hard rugby for the Brumbies.
