Why Manchester United vs Liverpool has been given unique kick-off time as Premier League makes change to fixture
The blockbuster showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool will kick off at a unique time this weekend.
United come into this clash having surrendered a 3-2 lead in the 98th minute to lose to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.
Cole Palmer scored twice in the final seconds to sink the Red Devils, now out of the Champions League race.
Erik ten Hag’s side will need to bounce back quickly, however, and if they do, they could deal a hammer blow to their Premier League title chances.
The Reds are currently top of the table, but a defeat against United could see them drop to third place by the end of the weekend.
There’s a lot to play for for both teams, so fans will be desperate to tune in.
However, they will need to make sure to check the kick-off time before settling in to watch.
The clash will take place on Sunday April 7 but it will start at 3:30 p.m. in an upheaval of the meeting schedule.
United’s third meeting with Liverpool this season initially had a slot booked during the 3pm blackout on Saturday 6 April.
Having been picked for TV coverage by Sky Sports, fans would have expected the match to kick off at 4.30pm on Super Sunday.
It was kick-off time for the reverse encounter at Anfield, with the Red Devils battling to a goalless draw on the enemy’s home turf.
Although unconfirmed, when matches are moved forward an hour, it is likely to respond to a police request.
Liverpool managed 34 shots when the two teams met in December but failed to score, and this remains one of only two games all season that the club failed to win at Anfield.
They then met again last month, with Amad Diallo scoring a late extra goal to overcome a 4-3 draw in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have since recovered from this blow to take the lead in the Premier League.
But a trip to Old Trafford will likely prove decisive, with Klopp’s two away clashes against United under Ten Hag both ending in defeats.
