Pope Francis died earlier this week and it was announced that Prince William will go to his funeral as a representative of the royal family. Most people can be confused as to the reason why the king will not be present, but according to expert Royal Katie Nicholl, the king is not allowed to attend.

The king “will not go to the Vatican, in accordance with the protocol and the priority which dictates that the sovereign does not attend the funeral, confirmed the palace of Buckingham” Vanity.
In fact, this is not the first time that something like it happens. Cosmopolitan Note that when King Charles was Prince, he attended the funeral of Pope John Paul II instead of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2005.
King Charles and Queen Camilla had the chance to briefly meet the Pope when they visited Italy about two weeks ago for their 20th wedding anniversary. The couple would have received a gift from the Pope.

After the news announced that the Pope died, the king published a declaration on the official account of the royal family.
“My wife and I were very deeply saddened to learn the death of Pope Francis,” said the declaration. “Our heavy hearts were somewhat attenuated, however, that his holiness was able to share a greeting of Easter with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and his ministry.”

The King continues: “His holiness will remain in memories for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church and for his tireless commitment to the common causes of all the people of the faith, and for those of the goodwill that work for the benefit of others.”
Charles put an end to his article by saying: “His conviction that the care of creation is an existential expression of faith in God sounds with so many people around the world. Thanks to his work and his care to people and the planet, he deeply touched the lives of so many people.”
British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and US President Donald Trump are among the other world leaders who will attend the services on Saturday for his holiness.
