Brandy worried fans after abruptly leaving the stage during her concert with Monica on Saturday night.
The duo performed as part of their The Boy Is Mine Tour at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday evening. In the videos posted online, Brandy can be heard saying: “Give me a second, y’all. I need to get my…” She didn’t finish her sentence but left the stage and didn’t return.
On Sunday, she posted on her Instagram account an explanation why.
Addressing her message to her “dear Chicago fans,” Brandy wrote, “Thank you all for your love, support, and most importantly, your prayers. I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of non-stop rehearsals, last night I felt dehydrated and wanted to pass out. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.
“I still made the decision to try to come back and give it my all even though I wasn’t feeling well. With some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts,” she continued.
Reportedly, Monica performed the rest of their set solo and the audience didn’t get to hear the duo’s iconic song, “The Boy Is Mine,” which gave the tour its name.
In her post, Brandy said she sought medical attention immediately after leaving the arena and “took appropriate precautions” to get better in the future. She thanked “my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism, and the entire team for their continued care and support.”
She also thanked her fans.
“Your understanding, patience and unwavering belief mean the world to me. I can’t wait to return to the stage – stronger and more grateful than ever – alongside my girlfriend, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis,” Brandy wrote.
For her part, Monica shared Brandy’s post on her own Instagram Stories.
