It was still a short week General Hospital, what about the New Year’s holiday. Several fans pointed out the fact that we never saw or heard if Michael actually got to visit his kids on Christmas morning. The 25th in Port Charles came and went without any mention, and it seems like New Year’s Eve too, since Willow and Drew are already in Washington DC for his swearing-in. Let’s just see what happened.
Shh… Shh, sweet Lulu
As I’ve mentioned many times, Lulu has run hot and cold with viewers, and this week it was another series of freezing Lulu. His reunion with Charlotte didn’t go as planned, but blaming Dante and verbally berating him for ruining his attempt to get Charlotte back was overkill. Valentin wasn’t going to let Lulu take Charlotte in the first place, and she was delusional for thinking so! Yes, Lulu is crazy!
I loved everything Dante had to say to Lulu in Friday’s episode, from him putting Charlotte in danger as well as herself, from not caring about Rocco, his family or the sacrifice that Sam did so she could live. Lulu spat in the face of what she has for what she doesn’t have. Thanks, Dante! Maybe now Lulu will change her attitude a little.
One thing I have to give Lulu credit for is that she was on point when she told Valentin to think about what would happen when he was shot and if Charlotte was there when it happened. Well, it happened! Plus, Valentin pointing out that Charlotte wasn’t any safer in Port Charles and telling Lulu that Anna shot Charlotte was a ridiculous comparison. The only reason Charlotte got shot was because Victor turned her into a little psycho stalker, so it was her association with Valentin and Victor that caused it, not Port Charles .
I loved that Valentin took to heart Lulu’s words that what he was doing to Charlotte was unfair and that he was giving Charlotte the choice to go home to her mother. However, we all knew she wouldn’t abandon her precious daddy. I believe that Lulu’s words will remain engraved in Valentin’s memory, that it is their job as parents to do what is best for Charlotte, who is still a child, and that Valentin will eventually send away Charlotte at home.
Back in Port Charles, we know that Brennan sent Collette to take out Valentin, but so far no one else has. As for Brennan, Anna was busy subpoenaing the WSB agent and ordering him to never speak to Emma again. What was it that about? Anna is in a real mess, what with all this and almost letting Jason beat Martin into telling them what he knew about Valentin’s whereabouts. She should make an appointment with Kevin to discuss her many problems.
Severe like a heart attack
So Sonny’s indigestion last week, as we all knew, was about more than too much lasagna. Luckily, Isaiah was there to save the day after the gangster collapsed from chest pains in the gym, but headstrong Sonny refused to get checked out at General Hospital. This could have been a wise decision because Cyrus runs there to inject people with digitalis. However, it’s a safe bet that’s where this storyline is heading, with Sonny on Cyrus’ radar. When news of Sonny’s heart condition gets out, Cyrus probably won’t be able to resist taking advantage of the opportunity to get rid of his nemesis. Portia and Terry also revealed to Elizabeth that an elderly and sick patient of hers may also have been one of the Foxglove Killer’s first victims. So, does Cyrus now consider himself an angel of mercy?
Sonny pointed out to Isaiah that one of the reasons he didn’t want to go to General Hospital and wanted Isaiah to keep it a secret was because in his job weak men become targets. This made me think that maybe this was how Michael was dating. Maybe he’s caught in an attack intended for Sonny. Indeed, some spoilers were accidentally revealed today, suggesting that may be what’s happening. Of course, this remains pure speculation.

There seemed to be a bit of foreshadowing that Sonny might consider leaving the mafia, with his heart issues and his discussion with Alexis about Kristina’s safety running one of his businesses. Alexis pointed out that it wasn’t like she could ask him to leave the mafia for the sake of their daughter. So it wasn’t much of a surprise when Sonny suggested Jason hand over the business to him when the time was right. What was a shock was that Jason said no! Good for Jason for doing what’s right for Danny, telling Sonny that he’s the only parent his son has left and that he can’t bring this danger into their lives.
Dads and children
I was happy that Sasha told Michael the truth about the baby, but him being okay with being a distant, distant father just isn’t part of his character. He would never walk away from one of his children unless, perhaps, it was the only thing that would protect that child and keep him alive from his enemies. It’s just another questionable rewrite of a character’s personality. Michael convincing Sasha to stay in Port Charles was a little more like him, because he could at least see his kid from time to time. However, they are both mistaken if they think they can achieve this. Of course, we know they don’t have to and Michael is about to leave. Ultimately, will Sasha keep her secret after he’s gone or will she tell people who her baby is? This kid has a lot of ELQ action coming up, if Sasha ever wants to go.
Drew pushing Willow to not only come see him take the oath, but also to bring Wiley with him, it was nauseating. But hey, at least they kept it off-screen, so we only had to hear about their trip, not see it. Also, since when is Wiley so important to Drew? And who took care of Amelia while Mom ran off and had fun with Congressman Quartermaine?
With Michael’s upcoming exit, we feel like we’re going to be forced to see Drew step up and be a dad to Michael’s kids. Someone stop this! As I’ve noted in previous columns, Nina could end this by telling Willow the truth, that she had slept with Drew while he made googly eyes at his daughter. Even Curtis, who deduced this, told Nina that telling Willow now would save her a lot of pain later. Of course, it’s Nina, and she probably won’t listen to Curtis. Michael’s departure will likely be the reason she rationalizes, “Now’s not the time…”

One thing I will say is that this would be a great opportunity to bring Nina and Carly together to work on keeping Drew and Willow apart. Hey, strange things have happened. Who would have thought that Ava and Nina would become best friends?
Here are my thoughts and opinions on this short week of General Hospital. As always, leave yours in the comments and Happy New Year!
