Who went home on a bad night?

SPOILER ALERT! This article contains details from Tuesday night’s episode of Dancing with the starsincluding who returned home.

Viewers were transported to Oz for Wicked at night in the Dancing with the stars ballroom Tuesday.

Wicked Director Jon M. Chu joined the event to judge the performances, which included a range of songs from both films, including all the big hits like “Dancing Through Life,” “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.” The evening began with a lively opening number featuring the pros choreographed by Chris Scott, who also did the choreography for the films and was also in the ballroom for the show.

Plus, Deadline was in the ballroom to capture some behind-the-scenes content for the chic evening, and you’ll find some of those videos below.

Keep reading to learn more about the performances and scores, as well as to see who was sent home in the single elimination.

Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying with Rylee Arnold. Dancing a contemporary of “The Sorcerer and I,” Hoying (a Wicked super fan) wanted to take the judges’ notes on previous performances seriously and take up more space on the ballroom floor. Hoying played the role of the wizard in the song, while Arnold played Elphaba. “Contemporary is difficult for someone with normal arms and legs,” Chu joked about Hoying’s long limbs, complimenting the routine’s vigor but noting that he would have liked to see smoother transitions. SCORE: 28 out of 40.

Social media personality Alix Earle with Val Chmerkovskiy. The TikTok star danced a jazz routine to “What Is This Feeling?” » and was determined to do justice to Ariana Grande, whose performance she praised in the film. And that’s exactly what she did. Obviously, she totally succeeded. “I thought it was delicious,” Bruno Tonioli said. “Everything had the right intention in the right place.” Although it may not have been her most difficult dance, as Carrie Ann Inaba pointed out: “It was your best dance.” » SCORE: 35 out of 40

Wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin with Witney Carson. Irwin is here to be “the best he can be,” so he pulled out all the stops for this jazz routine to “Dancing Through Life.” It would have been a crime to give him another song for Wicked night, and naturally, he brought the fun, light-hearted energy required by anyone playing Fiyero. “This must be your theme song,” Inaba told him. “It was so ambitious. You really took on the challenge… You succeeded!” She also called Carson’s choreography “breathtaking.” SCORE: 36 out of 40 (all 9, their best scores of the season!)

Whitney Leavitt (The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives) with Mark Ballas. After getting ahead of her music last week on Dedication Night and making a rare mistake, Leavitt was determined to bounce back and be “more present” for her quick stint on “Popular.” For this Glinda-centric routine, she and Ballas even got to use some of the scenes from the film. “It was the perfect blend of technical prowess and… artistry,” Chu said. “I was floating in the air in a bubble watching it, and I think the whole world was too.” She certainly redeemed herself from the previous week, considering the dance brought her not only her best scores of the season, but also top 10s of the season. Derek Hough was the only judge to give it a 9 (Booooo!). SCORE: 39 of 40

Reality TV star Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach. Dancing a rumba to “I’m Not That Girl,” Efron was coming off a season-high score on Dedication Night when he danced for his younger sister. The last time he did a Latin dance, he struggled a bit because the movements took him out of his comfort zone, so he was very focused this week to make up the deficit. Shall we just say the hips were moving tonight! As Tonioli said, “There’s no problem with your hips,” adding that in fact, at times, Efron even seemed to lose control of them. Inaba praised his partnership with Karagach and provided some technical notes, but all the judges agreed that he had certainly improved significantly from week to week. SCORE: 32 of 40

Comedian Andy Richter with his partner Emma Slater. Performing a jazz routine to “One Short Day” introduced by the one and only Michelle Yeoh (via video message), Richter was ready to enter his element with the showmanship of the dance style. Even though he says there will never be an episode of this series where he doesn’t expect to go home, he’s still determined to give it his all until that day comes. He proved it during this trip to the Emerald City, as evidenced by Tonioli’s comment: “You were on time! It’s a miracle!” He got three 7s! His best scores! Once again, Derek Hough was a bit of a buzzkill, awarding Richter another 6. SCORE: 27 of 40

Actor Elaine Hendrix with Alan Bersten. THE Parental trap The phenomenon was left confused after her Dedication Night dance received fairly low scores from the judges, which she felt was a bit unfair. In a week where she felt the pain of her physical limitations more than ever, it was only fitting that she danced a contemporary to “Defying Gravity,” a song about overcoming anything that stands in your way. She brought the ballroom to its feet and brought Inaba to tears with her powerful performance. “It was something special,” Inaba said. “This passion was beauty, elegance… I am SO proud of you. The dance earned him all 9s, his highest scores of the season. SCORE: 36 of 40

Jen Affleck (The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives) with Jan Ravnik. The new mom danced a Foxtrot to the romantic ballad “As Long As You’re Mine,” and she started the week feeling a little unsure. “Do you think I’m a bad dancer? Be honest,” she asks Ravnik in their introductory package, even though he insists she’s doing great. Affleck says she specifically requested more difficult choreography this week in an effort to increase her scores. “I really felt like you connected with that dance,” Derek Hough told her. “It was very beautiful.” Affleck seemed a little disappointed with her score, even though it was her best score of the season with all 8s. SCORE: 32 of 40

Danielle Fishel (A boy meets the world) with Pasha Pashkov. After Inaba told her last week that she felt like she was watching “the same dance over and over again,” Fishel wanted to shake things up with her Argentine tango to “No Good Deed.” And she did it to make things happen! “Full of passion and drama! It had fantastic style and placement,” said Tonioli, also praising Pashkov’s choreography, given that the song is quite difficult. Inaba got what she asked for, calling Fishel’s dance a “breakthrough.” The judges gave him the highest scores of the season, all 9s! SCORE: 36 of 40

Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles with Ezra Sosa. Chiles closed the night with his rumba for “For Good.” An interesting dance style for the song, which required Chiles and Sosa to play friends rather than lovers (as is typical of a rumba), but they pulled it off somehow. It was simply no surprise that she got three 10s. Keeping it short and sweet, Inaba said: “It was perfection! » SCORE: 39 out of 40

It was definitely a bit unfair to have to eliminate someone on a night with so many high scores and notable improvements, but such is life.

Drum roll, please… Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold had the lowest scores and therefore won’t be dancing next week.
