François Bayrou
French Prime Minister François Bayrou is perhaps the first to pay the fall of Le Pen. The centrist ally Macron has tried to widen both national legislators and moderate left legislators to maintain his minority government afloat.
Since Bayrou came in power in December, after the far right ousted his predecessor, the national rally prevented the government. Before the verdict of the Pen Pen, the extreme right already increased the issues.
“It is a rodeo and the Prime Minister is trying to stay as long as possible, but there is no leadership,” said a heavyweight from the National Rally, which has obtained anonymity to discuss the party’s strategy. The person said that national rally legislators did not seek “apologies” to overthrow the government, but would do it if there were “quite serious” elements.
Bayrou also walks carefully because he also faced a trial on the accusations that he and his party have diverted the European Parliament funds for party activities, although a much smaller scale. He was acquitted last year, but his party and several of its members were found guilty. However, the accusation appealed and a new trial is planned.
