Robert Fico, Slovakia’s prime minister, was shot dead Wednesday in a shock attack that left him seriously injured and hospitalized.
Fico, 59, was attending a government meeting in the town of Handlova, about two hours east of the Slovak capital, Bratislava. In videos of the incident, he is seen shaking hands with people through a metal barrier when a man appears to start shooting at point-blank range. Five shots ring out before the attacker is caught by security. Authorities said a suspect was in custody.
