Rekha Gupta will be the new Delhi chief minister. The Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party said its name after the Delhi legislative party meeting on Wednesday, February 19. The Shalimar Bagh MLA will take an oath on Thursday in Ramlila Maidan.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, winning 48 of the 70 seats in the Assembly. The Safran party beat the Aam Aadmi (AAP) party led by Arvind Kejriwal to reign over Delhi after almost three decades.

Rekha Gupta will be sworn in as Delhi CM, with his new ministers, during a large ceremony tomorrow. But who is she?

Let’s take a closer look.

1. Rekha Gupta, 50, is a first deputy who should become Delhi’s next CM. She will become the fourth woman to lead the national capital. GUPTA succeeds the AAP ATISHI for the first job. Sheila Dikshit of the Congress and the late head of the BJP, Sushma Swaraj, were the other women who occupied the coveted post.

2. GUPTA is also the fourth BJP leader in Helm Delhi after the Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma and Swaraj – All reigned between 1993 and 1998. According to sources, his name was proposed by Parovesh Verma, Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay at the BJP meeting at the legislative part.

3. GUPTA, a high leader of the BJP, began her political career as president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996 to 1997. She later entered municipal policy and won the Delhi adviser elections in Uttari Pitampura (district 54) in 2007. She was re -elected in 2012.

4. GUPTA was also mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). The head of the BJP definitively challenged Shelly Oberoi in the elections of the mayor of MCD of the AAP during the mayors of MCD 2022.

5 GUPTA has ancient links with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and was a member of Wing of its students Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Originally from Jind d’Haryana, Gupta beat Bandana Kumari d’Aap by a margin of 29,595 votes from the siege of Shalimar Bagh (northwest) in the Delhi 2025 elections.

6. A lawyer by profession, GUPTA graduated from the Daulat RAM College of the University of Delhi. It is a basic leader who has climbed the ladder of the BJP. GUPTA was secretary of the Bharatiya Delhi unit Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), secretary general of Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha and member of the National Executive of the BJP. Currently, she is the secretary general of Delhi BJP.

7. GUPTA was seen among the pioneers of the Delhi CM post. Some other names making the rounds were Verma, Vijender Gupta, Ashish Sood, Shikha Roy, Manoj Tiwari and Bansuri Swaraj. The Delhi CM Consigna will do its task for it as the sources said News18 that leadership and the center of the BJP expect “visible results” in the streets of Delhi in the first 100 days of the formation of the new government.

8. In his first remarks since the announcement, Gupta thanked the management of the BJP. “I bring my gratitude to the management of the BJP and the Legislative Party to have appointed me the chief minister of Delhi. I am fully ready to assume this responsibility and to work on the development of Delhi, ”she wrote in an article on X.
