Parvej Khan, an Indian athlete, recently made headlines by winning the gold medal at the NCAA SEC Outdoor Athletics Championship in the United States. Parvej, 19, won gold in the 1,500m after clocking 3:42.73, clinching his second medal of the tournament.

He had also won a bronze medal in the 800m category. The NCAA SEC Championships is a collegiate athletics competition held annually. Several college athletes from the southeastern regions of the United States are participating. Parvej is a freshman pursuing a scholarship at the University of Florida and representing the Florida Gators in track and field.

So, who is Parvej Khan? Here’s everything you need to know about the teenager:

Parvej Khan is a 19-year-old Indian athlete from Haryana. His family resides in Metwa district of Haryana and comes from a humble family background. Parvej’s father, Nafees Khan, is a farmer.

When he was 13, Parvej had left his village with the aim of excelling in athletics and hence had traveled to Delhi. He trained at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for a year and then moved to Bhopal, where he started training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI). There he trained under coach Anupama Srivastava.

In 2019, Parvej participated in the U16 National Championships in Mangalgiri, where he won a gold medal in the 800m event. In 2020, he won a bronze medal at the Khelo India Youth Games.

Parvej is also a gold medalist in the National Games. He won gold at the 2022 National Games in the 1500m and recorded his new personal best of 3:40.89.

What followed was the youngster moving to the United States, where he joined the University of Florida on a scholarship. Parvej has since become a member of the Florida Gators track and field team and finally made his debut at the NCAA Championships in Boston earlier this year.
