Who is Manik Saha, the dentist who replaced Biplab Deb as Chief Minister of Tripura

A dentist by profession, Saha, 69, was elected Rajya Sabha MP for Tripura last month. He will be sworn in on May 15 at 11:30 a.m.

Tripura Bharatiya Janata party chairman Manik Saha replaced Biplab Deb as the state’s chief minister on Saturday.

His appointment came just hours after Deb resigned.

Among other things, Saha faces the task of leading the BJP in the 2023 Tripura elections.

Who is Manik Saha?

A dentist by profession, Saha was elected Rajya Sabha MP for Tripura last month.

The North Eastern state sends only one member to the upper house of parliament.

“I was an ordinary party worker and will continue to be,” the 69-year-old said after his appointment.

Saha, Professor and Head of Department at Tripura Medical College and BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital in Agartala, joined BJP in 2016, NDTV reported.

Saha is a close associate of Biplab Deb who took to Twitter to congratulate his successor, the report adds.

According to his official biographical data on the Rajya Sabha website, Saha was born in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, in 1953. He was educated at Government Dental College, Patna and King George Medical University, Lucknow.
