Who dies in the Season Finale? (SPOILERS)

The White Lotus Season 2 promised HBO viewers at least three deaths by the end of the finale. We know that Daphne (Meghann Fahy) survives, as she is the guest who discovers a mysterious corpse as she takes one last dip in the sea. We also know that hotel manager Valentina (Sabrina Impacciatore) lives. She is seen not only frantically tending to the body Daphne finds, but also in shock at her nemesis Rocco (Federico Ferrante) telling her that a few other “guests” have been found dead on the resort grounds. So who dies in The White Lotus Season 2 finale? Will creator Mike White actually kill off his muse Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) or will locals like Lucia (Simona Tabasco) and Mia (Beatrice Grannò) once again suffer from the whims of guests?

Official HBO preview for The White Lotus Season 2 has teased a number of possible gruesome outcomes for this year’s character crop. We’ve seen Ethan (Will Sharpe) increasingly lose his temper over the idea of Cameron (Theo James) potentially sleeping with Harper (Aubrey Plaza), culminating in an apparent fight in the water. We also learned that Tanya is increasingly dangerous apart from assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) and that Albie (Adam Di Marco) feels it is her duty to “save” Lucia from her life in Sicily. .

All these storylines finally collided The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 7 “Arrivederci.” We finally found out who died and why Quentin (Tom Hollander) was apparently in love with “Cowboy” Greg (Jon Gries). Who was plotting against Tanya? Would Ethan lose his temper and kill? And was Lucia playing Albie all this time?

Here’s everything you need to know about the end of The White Lotus Season 2…starting with who died.

who dies in The White Lotus Season 2 finale?

Tanya does indeed die, but not without having fought a hell of a fight. During the episode, Tanya and Portia piece together separate clues that Greg indeed conspired with Quentin to stage his murder. Jack (Leo Woodall) has been hired by Quentin to take Portia away from Tanya so that mobster Niccoló (Stefano Gianino) can assassinate her at sea on the way back to the hotel. Even though Jack steals Portia’s phone, she is able to take hers and call Tanya who is on the yacht with Quentin et al. Together, the two women reconstruct the plot. That leaves both ladies, however, in the clutches of the Greg/Quentin team.

Once the yacht arrives near Taormina, Quentin explains that Niccoló comes aboard and will bring it back to shore alone. Tanya loses her phone trying to call the mainland and has a darkly comedic scene with the yacht driver in which she says iconicly, “These gays, they’re trying to murder me.” (Lucille Bluth would be so proud.) When that doesn’t work, Tanya tries to delay her eventual journey with death. She sees that Niccoló has a black bag he brought with him. She catches him on his way to the “bathroom” and locks the door. In the bag is a rope, duct tape and a gun, thus confirming that this is the plot.

Quentin and Niccoló realize that Tanya has understood and knock on the door. When they pass, Tanya summons some sort of “Final Girl” energy. She keeps pulling and shoving her way through, tears in her eyes and freaking out the whole time. She kills Niccoló and Didier (Bruno Gouery) and puts Quentin behind her. Hugo (Paolo Camilli) escapes by diving into the water and swimming to shore. Tanya tries to convince Quentin to reveal if Greg is cheating on her, but he doesn’t say anything.

Tanya then realizes she’s stuck on the yacht. She sees the dull and wonders if she can take the leap. After a few awkward attempts, she says, “You have this.” She, in fact, does not. She hits her head while diving into the water. After an operatic underwater death scene featuring Puccini, we learn that she was the corpse discovered by Daphne. The other dead “guests”? The murdered bodies on the yacht. All the others survive.

Jack drops Portia off at an airport in Catania and warns her not to return to the hotel or ask questions. We then see her don a terrible disguise at Sicily’s main airport where she reunites with Albie, who reveals that Lucia indeed extorted money from her. Portia asks Albie for her number and at least one happy thing happens.

Elsewhere, Mia keeps her job at the White Lotus. Valentina has become more confident in herself and her sexuality. Dominic (Michael Imperioli) manages to reconnect with his wife. And, after beating Cameron and spending a day with Daphne, Ethan finally fucks Harper. They smash the Moorish statue in their lovemaking.

Thus, Tanya McQuoid-Hunt of Jennifer Coolidge is the main character who dies in The White Lotus Season 2. Alas, that means she won’t continue to The White Lotus Season 3…
