White House ‘slams’ DC official’s praise of anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan


FIRST ON FOX: The White House has denounced a DC official’s praise of notorious anti-Semite and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as Office of Vice President Kamala Harris took a more general approach to condemning anti-Semitism after meeting with the official several times.

Cora Masters Barry, an appointee serving DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, found herself in the press earlier this month after she showered Farrakhan with praise at a private event honoring her late husband, DC Mayor Marion Barry.

At the event, Farrakhan praised late DC Mayor Marion Barry and praised his widow, with Barry returning the favor and calling the notorious anti-Semite a “friend” and ” family member” while telling her “I love you more than words will ever say.”

White House spokesman Andrew Bates told Fox News Digital that President Biden “denounces any praise” of Farrakhan or his rhetoric, including praise for Barry.

“As President Biden has always done and as Karine repeated this morning, ‘we must speak out against anti-Semitism wherever it rears its ugly head,'” Bates said. “The President has unequivocally condemned Louis Farrakhan and the hatred he has represented for decades and has co-sponsored bipartisan legislation to that effect.”

“He also denounces any praise of Louis Farrakhan or his repugnant and anti-Semitic values, including in this case,” Bates added.

Bates also pointed to Biden 1984 Bipartisan Senate Amendment denouncing Farrakhan and his anti-Semitic rhetoric.

Additionally, a White House spokesperson told Fox News Digital that elected officials from both parties across the country come to the White House on official business and that never means the administration is okay. with all their points of view.

When asked to comment, Harris’ office gave widespread condemnation of anti-Semitism but did not mention Barry’s praise of Farrakhan.

“The Vice President has condemned and will always condemn anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms,” Harris spokeswoman Kirsten Allen told Fox News Digital.

Allen also pointed to Harris’ track record in fighting anti-Semitism during his tenure.

Neither the White House nor Harris’ office responded to Fox News Digital’s question about whether Barry would be invited back to the White House.

Barry is nominated by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and currently serves as CEO of the Recreational Wishlist Committee. In 2021, Bowser said she was “grateful for women” like Barry and said she was “going to stand by them”, referring to Barry and Dr. Natalie Hopkinson, after board chairman Phil Mendelson, a Democrat, initially blocked them for reconsideration. serve on the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. A backlash followed, resulting in them remaining on the commission after the council voted.

Barry, who has donated $500 each to Biden’s presidential campaign and the Biden Victory Fund, has visited the White House at least four times since Biden and Harris took office. The DC official made headlines after meeting with Vice President Harris when his previous comments attacking white women resurfaced.

“F— White women,” Barry started saying in a November 2020 Zoom call video with Melanie Campbell, before correcting himself. “Excuse me, forget white women. They’re going to do what white men tell them to do.”

“They have smiles on their faces, they want to stay in charge,” Barry continued with Campbell reacting affirmatively in the background. “I don’t care about them, we have to do what we have to do.”

She also attacked then-President Trump’s supporters, comparing them to the Ku Klux Klan, saying, “I’m not saying everyone who voted for Trump wears a white sheet, but they have one in their closet and it comes out when we start playing with economic value or the balance of power.”

Barry also said at the time that if Biden wins the 2020 election, his group must “start organizing to ensure that the next president of the United States is a black woman.”

Bowser and Barry’s office did not respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
