White House: Driver arrested after truck crashed into security barriers near his residence | washington d.c.

The driver of a truck was arrested after crashing into security barriers in Lafayette Square, next to the grounds of the White House, a US Secret Service spokesman said.

“There were no injuries to Secret Service or White House personnel and the cause and manner of the accident is under investigation,” communications chief Anthony Guglielmi wrote Monday evening. US Secret Service on Twitter.

Some roads and walkways were closed, the Secret Service said, and the nearby Hay Adams Hotel was evacuated, Fox 5 television reported.

After a first crash, the driver hit the barriers a second time, WUSA reported, citing a witness report.

WUSA television showed live footage of a truck stopped along a row of steel bollards and uniformed law enforcement officers approaching the vehicle.
