Russia is looking for “the surrender of Ukraine, not for peace,” says Macron before discussions with Trump
“I do not believe (Russian President Vladimir) Putin wants peace,” said Macron to journalists after co -chair a meeting of the coalition of The Will. “I think he wants the surrender of Ukraine. »»

The Russian attack comes as Zelensky will visit Washington on August 18 for peace discussions with Trump, alongside European leaders.
The visit comes a few days after Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Alaska, to whom Zelensky was not invited. While Trump said that he and Putin “had made progress” in peace talks, the summit saw no agreement to put an end to the war in Ukraine and no promise as a ceasefire while the talks continue.
The New York Times reported, quoting European officials, that Putin described a peace plan that would imply Ukraine giving in unoccupied territory in exchange for the written promise of Moscow not to invade any more.
Despite Trump praising the progress of peace talks in recent days, the American president previously expressed his frustration in the face of Russian attacks against Ukrainian cities in the midst of continuous peace negotiations with kyiv.
“I could see things that were very surprised to me. Roquettes were shot dead in cities like kyiv during a negotiation which was perhaps very close to the end,” said Trump at a press conference at the Oval office on May 30.
“Suddenly, rockets were shot in a few cities and people died. I saw something I was surprised and I don’t like to be surprised, so I’m very disappointed that way,” added Trump.
Russia has increased its intensities of attacks on Ukrainian cities in recent months in the midst of current peace negotiations, trying to obtain more leverage at the negotiating and pressure on Ukraine in an unfavorable peace agreement.
