Based on the novel by Alasdair Gray, Poor things is set in Victorian London and stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a young woman who commits suicide and is resurrected by eccentric scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). In his film review, THRDavid Rooney’s David Rooney writes that Bella “evolves in this subversive Mary Shelley twist, from a Frankenstein experiment with – literally – the mind of an infant to a curious girl with a thirst for sex and adventure, then ultimately, an independent and fiercely driven woman.”
Mark Ruffalo and Ramy Youssef also star in the film, which has already won Golden Globes for best motion picture, musical or comedy and best actress for Stone.
