When to Watch – NBC Chicago
The 2024 Olympics begin this week, and this year gymnastics is one of the first sports on the agenda, bringing big names like Simone Biles, Suni Lee and more to the world stage.
The event is traditionally one of the most popular of the Games and this year the competition will begin on Saturday.
The men’s team features Deerfield native Paul Judah along with Brody Malone, Frederick Richard, Asher Hong and Stephen Nedoroscik.
Suburban gymnast Paul Judah will travel to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he will perform the Yurchenko double pike, making him one of the few men to attempt the vault, NBC Chicago’s Alex Maragos reports.
On the women’s side, the team includes Biles, Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carrey and Hezley Rivera.
Biles, whose Chicago Bears player husband will be at the Games, is considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. Lee, an Olympic medalist and Team USA veteran, is from the Midwest but has roots in Minnesota.
A draw earlier this year placed the women’s team in the second subdivision for the qualifying round, and the men’s team in the first subdivision. After qualifying, the top teams will compete in the team finals, with the top athletes in the all-around and each event also competing in those finals.
