when Poland is doping on armored vehicles – RT in French

[ad_1]

Washington has given the go-ahead for the sale of 116 additional Abrams tanks to Poland. For a year, Warsaw, among the main supporters of kyiv with which it has strengthened treaties, has multiplied mega arms orders.

Multirole aircraftself-propelled howitzers, multiple rocket launchers, combat tanks, accompanied by their lots of logistics vehicles and ammunition… nothing seems to be missing from the basket that Warsaw has built up in recent months.

On December 6, even though she received its first K-2 Black Panther combat tanks and South Korean-made K-9 Thunder howitzers, Poland has obtained the green light from the American administration to acquire 116 additional Abrams tanks. These are not of the latest standard, unlike the 250 copies ordered by Warsaw in the spring, but have the advantage of being ready for use.

The arrival of these second-hand armored vehicles on Polish soil is expected in the coming months. This new delivery would have no “negative impact on the state of preparation of American defense” notes the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (the DSCA, the Pentagon agency in charge of the export of American military equipment).

Thus, by 2026, the Polish forces will have 366 American Abrams tanks. To which will be added the nearly 1,000 Korean K-2s ordered in July in Seoul and the 250 Leopard 2s acquired – and modernized – from Germany over the past twenty years.

Thousands of armored vehicles: the bulimia of Warsaw

In addition to battle tanks, Poland also saw large in the field of artillery.

Alongside the thousand K-2s, 648 K-9 self-propelled howitzers are included in the mega order placed this summer with the Koreans. As a bonus, Warsaw added 288 K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers to its basket in October, forming a substantial complement to the American HIMARS. Poland only has about twenty, but in the spring its government sent Washington a letter of intent to acquire 500 more.

An anthology of land armaments that would almost eclipse the 48 F-50 fighters purchased from the Koreans and Warsaw’s plans to acquire additional F-35s from their traditional American ally and supplier.

The purpose of this bulimia of heavy equipment, at the time of the Russian operation in Ukraine: “to dissuade the aggressor” and “ensure the security of Polandinsists Warsaw, which must also replenish its stock of weapons, after having ceded a good part of it to its Ukrainian neighbor. According to the count of the Kiel Institute for the world Economy (IFW), a think tank German, and according to the words of the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Poland forms with Lithuania and Estonia the podium of the countries having helped Ukraine the most in terms of their GDP.

Poland, a bridge between Ukraine and NATO?

Poles and Ukrainians had also strengthened their bilateral cooperation even before the outbreak of the conflict with Russia.

In July 2020, Warsaw and Vilnius had sealed with Kiev the treaty of the Triangle of Lublin, in reference to the treaty of 1569 creating the Union of Lublin between the crown of Poland to that of the grand duchy of Lithuania, reigning over more than half of the territory of present-day Ukraine. Its contemporary version intends to support “the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine” and to promote the development of the Three Seas Initiative, launched in 2016 at the instigation of Poland and supported by the United States.

The ties between the two neighbors had also been strengthened by the announcement, on February 17, 2022, of a trilateral security pact with Great Britain, pillar of the Atlantic Alliance.
