The 2022 World Cup starts today and football fans are ready for the opening game between Qatar and Ecuador.

The 32 teams from around the world will compete in 64 matches for the biggest prize in football in the Middle East this winter.

The whole town of Lusail is currently under construction and its 80,000 seat stadium will host the World Cup final.

England have been drawn into Group B alongside Wales, Iran and the United States and will play their opening match of the tournament on Monday, November 21.

Every team will dream of a place in the World Cup final so when and where will it take place?

When is the World Cup final?

The World Cup final will take place on Sunday, December 18.

It will start at 3pm UK time.

The play-off for third place will take place the day before, also at 3 p.m.

The entire tournament will take place over just 29 days.

Every game, including all England games and the final itself, will be shown live on talkSPORT.

Where will the final be played?

The final will be played at the Lusail Iconic Stadium just outside Doha.

The venue has a capacity of 80,000 and has been given a futuristic look with a roof to help provide shade for supporters in the Qatar heat.

The stadium will host ten matches throughout the tournament, including the second quarter-final and the first semi-final.

Qatar’s opening game against Ecuador will not be played there, but rather at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.

When will the Premier League return?

The World Cup final takes place a week before Christmas with the Premier League returning on Boxing Day.

Just over a week after the tournament ended, the top flight is back on track with its signature festive matchday.

There will also be Carabao Cup matches on December 20 and 21.
