Thursday, two people died and six other people were injured in Florida State University in Tallahassee when a 20 -year -old shooter armed with a handgun opened fire near the student union, said law enforcement officials.
The suspect was killed and injured by police after ignoring their commandments, the authorities said. He was taken to the hospital and identified as a student and son of a local sheriff deputy.
The officials worked on “several crime scenes” on the Florida state campus and treated at least “hundreds” of witnesses, said Chief Lawrence E. Revell of the Tallahassee Police Service, the main agency.
Here’s what we know.
The shooting occurred near the Student Union building.
Around 11:50 am, shots broke out near the Student Union building in Florida State, a public university with an inscription of more than 43,000, eight days before the last day of the spring semester. The shooter used a handgun, said law enforcement officials at a press conference in the afternoon.
University police officers responded. When the shooter did not conform to their orders, they pulled him and injured him. He was placed in police custody and in the hospital, where he invoked his right to remain silent, said the chief Revell.
The chief said the suspect was also armed with a hunting rifle, but added that he was not clear if he had used it in the attack. The police think he acted alone.
