SAPD identified the shooter as 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos.

Here’s what we know about Poulos.

Report: Poulos assaulted a man and woman, 83 and 81; a woman pulled by her hair during an incident on January 18

Court records show Poulos was arrested Saturday, Jan. 18, after a call of an assault in progress.

According to a preliminary report obtained by KSAT Investigates, three people told officers that Poulos arrived at the scene and was intoxicated.

There was an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.

The report says Poulos pushed an 81-year-old woman to the ground, causing her to hit her head.

A 44-year-old woman intervened and Poulos pushed her to the ground several times, police said. The report says Poulos dragged her by her hair.

An 83-year-old man intervened and was punched several times by Poulos, police said.

Poulos left the scene in a vehicle but then crashed, police said. He was taken into custody.

His charges included assault causing bodily injury to a family member; two counts of wounding an elderly person with intent to cause bodily harm; and one count of DWI-2nd offense, records show.

Poulos was released on bond the next day and a judge ordered him not to possess or use firearms, according to court records.

Poulos was remanded to veterans court and a mental health evaluation was ordered, according to court records.

Poulos was also arrested by SAPD for assault and bodily injury in June 2013, records show.

Poulos had an active warrant out of Comal County

KSAT confirmed through the Comal County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division that Poulos had an active warrant at the time of the Stone Oak shooting.

An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for violation of bail and order of protection.

Background

The shooting happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 18700 block of Stone Oak Parkway.

Wednesday night’s call began as a suicide in progress, police said.

The first officer arrived on scene and was shot in the lower extremity, SAPD Chief William McManus said. A second officer also arrived and was shot. A third and fourth police officer arrived later and were also shot.

During a 2 a.m. update from McManus, he confirmed that three more officers had been shot.

All seven officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

McManus said the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment complex for several hours. However, McManus did not say when the incident ended.

McManus said Thursday that officers found the suspect dead in an apartment.

It is unclear whether the suspect died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds or died from SAPD shootings.
