What to expect and how to watch matches revealed live

E3 may be dead and buried, but there’s still a ton of gaming news to look forward to in the coming days as Summer Game Fest 2024 replaces the old expo. SGF has gradually grown in importance over the past few years as the organizing body for all the different gaming showcases that take place each June.

From June 7 to 10, a series of SGF events will highlight dozens of games. The big announcements will all be broadcast live for you to watch at home, but there is also an in-person component to SGF. Engadget will be on site to bring you additional information as well as our impressions of many of the games presented throughout the event.

For those of you who will be enjoying the festivities from afar, here’s how to watch Summer Game Fest 2024 and what to expect.

We’ve seen a few major announcements during the two-hour SGF showcase over the past few years, but it looks like the 2024 edition will be more low-key. SGF organizer and host Geoff Keighley tried to temper expectations by saying most of what will be broadcast this year will be new information about previously announced games.

He confirmed that Wild Monster HuntersKingdom Come 2: Deliverance And Metaphor: Refantazio (a fantasy JRPG from the team behind Persona) will get some time in the spotlight. The release date for the free co-op shooter is also on deck. The first descendant, a preview of the 3D fighter Dragon Ball: Sparks! Zero and a preview of the Among Us animated series.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Kingdom Hearts IV, The Wolf Among Us 2 and Ken Levine’s definitely not BioShock sequel to BioShock Judas will not be presented. There will be new reveals, but maybe try to control your hype level for this one. “There are definitely things being announced, but it’s not a series that talks a lot about ‘coming in 2026’ or ‘2027,’ or teasers for games that are years and years away,” Keighley said.

Developer Day – June 7, 7 p.m. ET

Day of the Devs is a great, reliable showcase of upcoming indie games. The team always manages to put together a collection of diverse and intriguing titles. Last year’s edition of The Game Awards, for example, included a preview of Open roads, Raven Country And March after midnight, which we have enjoyed so far this year. I inevitably end up adding at least four or five Day of the Devs games to my Steam wishlist, so it’s a must-have.

Devolver Direct – June 7, 8 p.m. ET

Devolver Digital’s annual help against chaos is upon us once again. The publisher’s reliable and wacky Live stream will include details on at least a few games. I hope we get the release dates for The courageous squire And Skateboarding history, the latter which has been at the top of my gaming list for a few years. Both titles are supposed to arrive in 2024, so now would be the perfect time for an update. Cross your fingers for more details on the man-baby walking simulator No baby amid the “exciting new reveals” that Devolver has planned.

Xbox Games Showcase – June 9, 1 p.m. ET

This might just be the biggest showcase of the week in terms of major game announcements. This is the first time that Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard have all participated in one of these events.

Microsoft has plenty of games and major updates on its 2024 slate. We’ll likely get details and/or release dates on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, DeclaredMicrosoft Flight Simulator 2024, Starfield And Diablo IV expansions and the next season of Monitoring 2. I hope we get a glimpse of Arkane Lyon Blade the game too. Expect to hear about other titles heading to Game Pass, and possibly other first-party games making the jump to PlayStation and Switch.

For many, the main event will take place after the main showcase as we learn all about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The next installment in the series will likely take place during the Gulf War. This is the first Call of Duty title that will be available on Game Pass on release day. This represents a major risk for Microsoft in forgoing sales of boxed copies of the game in favor of increasing subscriber numbers.

Ubisoft Forward – June 10, 3 p.m. ET

How to watch: YouTube (with English subtitles, audio description and American Sign Language options) and Twitch

Monday will be a busy day for the Engadget team, as we go straight from Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote to Ubisoft Forward. The publisher has a few major games coming up for the rest of the year. Star Wars Outlaws And Shadows of Assassin’s Creedand it promises “exclusive looks” on both.

XDefiant will receive the same treatment. We’ll likely hear about the sequel to some of Ubisoft’s other ongoing games, such as Rainbow Six: Siege And Skull and bones, and perhaps some future projects for The Division. Ubisoft Forward will have a pre-show and a post-show, so there’s a lot to come for the company.

Chances of a Hollow Knight: Song of Silk appearance: Unless (shudder) Ubisoft suddenly buys Team Cherry, nothing.

Nintendo Direct-?

The House Mario Built assured the world that there would be a Nintendo Direct sometime in June, but it has yet to announce the details. One thing that goes not Being a factor in this showcase is the successor to the Nintendo Switch. While the company has committed to announcing its next flagship system by next March, it won’t do it here.

And that’s not all, friends. Several other showcases will take place in the coming days. Atlus is hosting a YouTube stream dedicated to Metaphor: ReFantazio on Friday at 9 p.m. ET. On Saturday in particular, there’s plenty to check out, including Future of Play Direct, Wholesome Direct (both of which feature family games), the Latin American Games Showcase, and a stream of female-led games. These will run throughout the day, starting at 11 a.m. ET. On Sunday, the PC Gaming Show will follow the Call of Duty Direct at 4 p.m. ET.
