When Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021 — nearly 20 years after ending their first engagement — Damon, 53, was candid about what he thought of the reunion.
“I’m so happy for him,” Damon told Extra in 2021. “He’s the best. He deserves all the happiness in the world. I’m happy for both of them.”
And now that Lopez, 55, has filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, the former “Gone Girl” actress is leaning on Damon and his wife, Luciana Barroso.
Affleck was spotted with the couple on a dinner date Sunday night and appeared to be in good spirits despite the end of his two-year marriage.
The trio dined at Italian restaurant Toscana in Los Angeles, with the newly single actor wearing a white T-shirt, beige button-down shirt, jeans and Nikes.
Damon wore a black polo shirt and dark jeans, matching his wife of nearly 19 years, who wore a black crop top and matching pants.
Affleck arrived alone and drove himself while Damon and Barroso arrived with their children.
Despite the end of her relationship, the “Jersey Girl” star was caught on camera laughing alongside the valet after dinner, according to video obtained by TMZ.
Their night out on the town comes a week after Lopez filed for divorce without a lawyer on the anniversary of their second marriage. The singer announced the date of separation as April 26.
The couple reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement. Lopez did not request spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck spousal support.
After getting engaged in 2022, they tied the knot in July of that year at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas before saying “I do” for the second time at Affleck’s estate in Riceboro, Georgia, a month later.
Reports have surfaced that the “Air” director’s “erratic mood swings” may have contributed to their split.
“The truth is there was a lot of love between Ben and I, but unfortunately what also became apparent was Ben’s erratic mood swings that he couldn’t hide from the press, no matter how hard he tried,” a source told People on Saturday. “You could see his erratic behavior, his huge mood swings.”
The source also shared that Affleck would go from “incredibly happy and warm demeanor – the best light coming off of him” to “the deepest, darkest demeanor.”
They added: “I think he was sending a message to the press.”
“But when mood swings, major ups and downs lead to pervasive toxicity, no one can help you – you have to help yourself,” the insider continued.
“But I wouldn’t dare say there is no love – of course there is,” they concluded. “The whole world was rooting for them, but who they pretended to be and who they turned out to be were two different people.”
