The AAM AADMI Party (AAP) is directed to a defeat after 10 years of power in Delhi. The “double engine” of the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party is about to take control of the national capital, overthrowing the party of Arvind Kejriwal and forming the government in the city after almost three decades.
According to the first trends in the India electoral commission (ECI), the BJP has comfortably crossed the half by 35 by leading in 37 seats and winning 11 others. The AAP is ahead in 12 seats and won 10, while the congress is out of the photo.
It was a high challenge election for the three main parties. Delhi has chosen his future for the next five years, choosing the BJP on AAP. But after a decade of power, what did not work for Kejriwal’s party?
Let’s take a look.
Delhi 2025 electoral results: how are the Bigwigs AAP
Many AAP leaders have failed to keep their seats.
The former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is at the origin of the BJP Singh Singh Verma Parvese by more than 4,000 votes from the constituency of New Delhi, in accordance with the Trends of the EC at 2:11 p.m.

Delhi Minister and the main leader of the AAP, Sarabh Bhardwaj, lost the seat of Grand Kalash against Shikha Roy of BJP, who won more than 3,100 votes.
The BJP Karnail Singh beat the former Delhi Minister of Health, Satyendar Jain in Shakur Basti, by a huge margin of more than 20,000 votes.
But this is not all bad news for the AAP.
Delhi Cm Atitishi, who was previously dragged from the siege of the Kalkaji assembly, beat Rameh Bidhuri from the BJP by 3,521 votes.
Delhi Minister, Gopal Rai, won Babarpur by more than 18,000 votes, beating the Kumar Vashisht Anil from the BJP.

Amanatullah Khan directs to Okhla by more than 22,000 votes, leaving behind all India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (Aimim) the candidate Shifa Ur Rehman Khan.
What’s behind the loss of AAP?
The results of the Delhi elections destroyed the EAP hopes for a fourth consecutive victory. It was the most difficult electoral battle for Kejriwal’s party. The AAP, which came to power for the first time in Delhi in 2013, was fighting over 10 years of anti-stings.
Social protection regimes of the AAP and the concentration of health, education and electricity contributed to its meteoric ascent in the national capital. This was visible in the results of the elections of the Delhi 2015 and 2020 assembly while the Kejriwal party stormed power with a decisive mandate of 67 and 62 seats, respectively.
This time, the AAP, which had won the middle class with its anti-corruption survey in 2013, was fighting in itself the allegations of corruption. As the elections approaches, the BJP relentlessly attacked the AAP on the costly renovation of the residence of the chief when Kejriwal was in office, referring to this Sheesh Mahal. The congress also tried to get the CAA to get the CAA on the issue, lowering the image “AAM AADMI”.
In April 2024, only 10 months before the Delhi elections, the high leaders of the AAP, notably the leader of the Kejriwal party, Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Rajya Sabha, the deputy Sanjay Singh was in prison.
While Jain was imprisoned in an alleged money of money laundering, the other Bigwigs AAP were in prison in an alleged alcohol scam. All were released on bail between August and October from last year.
The senior leaders of the AAP now blame the incarceration of superior brass for the party which fails to set up a better challenge for the BJP, as it did during the two previous elections. “While the leaders were in prison, the party was in a sort of limbo. This also led to a lot of dissatisfaction among the frustrated advisers because the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) operation had collapsed under the AAP and no work was done. There was no one to calm temperatures at the time. This had an impact on how the elections were disputed for months down, “said an AAP chief Indian Express.
After Kejriwal’s party won the MCD elections in 2022, he could not empower the BJP so as not to have allowed him to work.
An impasse remains in the MCD house which harmed the AAP due to blocked projects. “We could not improve the roads or ensure better garbage management … In closed colonies and medium and upper areas, the poor condition of the roads has become an important problem,” said a senior PAA official Indian Express Before the Delhi elections.
Even after 10 years of power, Kejriwal’s party has failed to solve Delhi’s pollution problems for which he held BJP governments in responsible neighboring states. The AAP has attracted the anger of the middle class in poor condition of the city’s roads and sewers. The dirty streets, the overflowing drains and the supply of irregular water have further angry the voters.
The middle class did not benefit from the Social protection plans of the AAP, which gave the party an image it only works for the poor. Although Kejriwal tried to court the middle class at the end, it seems that he does not bear fruit.
In particular, the middle class represents 67.16% of the Delhi population, according to a 2022 report by research on the economy of Indian consumption. The BJP was able to attract the middle class as well as the poor this time.
The Battle of the AAP with successive Lieutenant-Governors (LGS) has also harmed its perspectives. The Delhi government was constantly in the case of the LGS appointed to the center, accusing them of keeping projects.
From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the former chief of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, eminent politicians have excavated at AAP to constantly blame the lack of development of the Center for Delhi and the functioning of his government. About Indian ExpressThe opposition parties in Delhi managed to successfully project the explanation of the AAP as “excuses”.

What does that mean for AAP?
The loss of Delhi of the AAP could harm the party in other states. The rise of the Kejriwal party has coincided with the decline of the Congress in the national capital as well as the Punjab.
The AAP had defeated the congress to reach Delhi for the first time in 2013. In Punjab, the AAP won a swinging victory with 92 seats, the Congress being reduced to only 18 in the polls of the 2022 assembly .
About Economic times (and)Kejriwal’s problems in Delhi could weaken his grip in Punjab, giving an advantage to the congress. AAP efforts to break through in the BJP of Gujarat bastion could also undergo a shock.
AAP and Congress are allies in the block in India. A return to Delhi for the AAP would have given the national alliance something to delight after the successive victories of the BJP in Haryana and the Maharashtra. The leaders of the Bloc in India began to blame the allies who dispute the surveys separately for the loss of Delhi.
The defeat of the AAP could however benefit the congress, which considers that it can win its land lost in the national capital with the disappearance of the long -term Kejriwal party, according to Indian Express.
