This article contains spoilers For “The Last of Us” season 2.
Those who watched “The Last of Us” on HBO now know what fans of original video games have been knowing for years – that Joel (Pedro Pascal) has not exactly a happy ending. On the contrary, he undergoes the same dark fate on the series as in the games: being brutally beaten to death by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) with a golf club. The big difference is that in the game “The Last of Us Part II”, Abby presents himself without a fanfare or explanation, while the series reveals at the start of season 2 that she is the daughter of Doctor Joel killed to save Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in season 1.

If you have not played games, you may now wonder what happens to Abby in this version of the story. Just be notified: “The Last of Us” has remained quite faithful to the source material so far, so it is sure to assume that its bow will be essentially the same in the show. If you don’t want spoilers for season 3 of “The Last of Us” or potential season 4 (depending on how HBO divides things), you should probably not read further.
With this away, it is sure to say that the Arc d’Abby probably does not happen as you could expect after looking at “The Last of Us” season 2, episode 2. In “The Last of Us Part II”, she is co-protagonist alongside Ellie, with the player who controlled her for major songs in history. And the quest for revenge that followed Ellie against Abby has a lot of twists and turns.

Abby has his own story in the last of us, Part II
In “The Last of Us Part II”, Abby returns to Seattle with his crew after killing Joel. There, she resumes her role in a war underway for the city between the Washington Liberation Front – a militia in which she is an active member – and a religious cult known as Séaphites. Over time, however, Abby is disillusioned by war and finally falls into the role of protector for a young seaphite boy named Lev, who tries to escape the brutal lifestyle of the group.

After a meeting with Ellie which ends with them both still alive, Abby decides to leave Seattle for good and try to regroup with the remaining Lucioles in California, taking Lev with her. However, the two are then captured by another brutal faction, where they are tortured and enslaved.
In the end, Ellie retraces Abby again to finally take revenge, to eventually save Abby and Lev from their kidnappers instead. In the last moments of the game, Ellie forces Abby to fight her to death, and she even has the opportunity to kill her and finally avenge Joel. Despite this, Ellie cannot ultimately go there and allows Abby and Lev to free himself rather than continue the cycle of violence.

Will the Arc d’Abby be the same in The Last of Us Show?
Until now, “The Last of Us” by HBO has remained quite faithful to its source material. There have been additions, such as the additional background for Frank (Murray Bartlett) and Bill (Nick Offerman), and changes, like the infected attack against Jackson in season 2, which does not occur in the games. But the major rhythms are the same, and certain scenes, such as the Big Jackson Dance where Dina (Isabela Merced) and Ellie Kiss, are removed from the Verbatim of the Games.

The program has already made some adjustments to the characterization of Abby, by throwing it against the type and establishing that in this version, his friends are not as GUNG-HO on brutal revenge as they are. Even so, it is difficult to imagine that HBO brings too many big changes to the Abby arc. In the game, you see the side of Ellie in history, then Abby is followed by a last Ellie section to conclude things. It will be curious to see if the show maintains this strict division in place or if it adopts a more traditional structure by jumping between the two in Seattle. Anyway, we will not have all the answers of season 2, with “The Last of Us”, season 3 having already been confirmed by HBO.
