The 2022 budget is fast approaching and it is expected that the government’s reform agenda will receive a significant boost and there will be measures to support foreign investment.

According to experts from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), India must be among the top 10 countries in the ease of doing business index, there must be a speedy follow-up in resolving contract disputes, there should be a reduction in import tariffs, MSMEs need broader infrastructure and support, it is important to consolidate health spending and avoid overlap between Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Yojana and the National Health Mission.

CSIS also said that India’s divestment roadmap and land reform strategy need to be clarified.

The US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) said the budget must facilitate the use of digital solutions by buyers and sellers, remove caps on FDI in the insurance sector, increase access to finance for MSMEs, remove the cumbersome process of acquiring multiple licenses and ensure tax stability, continuity and commitment to global tax standards.

To discuss what foreign investors want from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, CNBC-TV18 sat down with CSIS Senior Advisor Rick Rossow; Mukesh Aghi, CEO and President of USISPF; Vinod Muthukrishnan, Co-Chair of USISPF Start-up Connect and Jayant Krishna, CEO of FAST India & Senior Fellow at CSIS.
