Gaza, Palestine – The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has exhausted all of its food stocks for families in Gaza.
Today, WFP has delivered its last stocks of food to the kitchens of hot meals in the Gaza Strip. These kitchens should fully Get out of food in the coming days. For weeks, the kitchens of hot meals were the only constant source of food aid for the inhabitants of Gaza. Although it only reaches half of the population with only 25% of daily food needs, they provided a critical rescue buoy.
PAM also supported bakeries to distribute affordable bread in Gaza. On March 31, the 25 bakeries supported by PAM closed while the wheat flour and the cooking fuel was exhausted. The same week, WFP food plots distributed to families – with two weeks of food rations – were exhausted. PAM is also deeply concerned about the serious lack of sure water and fuel for cooking – forcing people to recover items to burn to cook a meal.
No humanitarian or commercial supply has entered Gaza for more than seven weeks, as all the main points of crossing at the borders remain closed. It is the longest closure that the Gaza Strip has ever faced, exacerbating already fragile markets and food systems. Food prices have skyrocketed up to 1,400% compared to the ceasefire ceases, and essential food products are in shortage raising serious nutritional problems for vulnerable populations, including children under the age of five, pregnant women and breastfeeding and breastfeeding and the elderly.
More than 116,000 metrics of food aid – enough to feed a million people for up to four months – are positioned in the aid corridors and are ready to be brought to Gaza by PAM and food security partners as soon as the borders reopped.
The situation inside the Gaza Strip again reached a break point: people are lacking in ways to cope, and the fragile gains made during the short ceasefire collapsed. Without an urgent action to open borders so that help and trade enter, Critical assistance of PAM can be forced to end.
PAM urges all parties to prioritize the needs of civilians and to allow the help of immediately penetrating Gaza and maintaining their obligations under international humanitarian law.
