West Nile virus detected in mosquitoes

That buzzing sound you hear all day long might not just be another innocent mosquito.

Over the past two weeks, authorities have discovered West Nile virus in mosquitoes in several New York City neighborhoods, including the Kensington neighborhood of Boro Park.

Most cases of West Nile virus do not develop symptoms, but those who do report headaches, body aches, vomiting, and rashes. West Nile virus very rarely becomes serious, but when it does, it can affect the brain and spinal cord. A doctor can do a blood test to detect the virus, but there is no known cure and most people recover on their own.
