West Ham dealt early blow as Lucas Paqueta is suspended for second leg against Bayer Leverkusen

Lucas Paqueta will miss West Ham’s Europa League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen.

The West Ham star went into the quarter-finals knowing a booking in Germany would see him banned for the second leg at the London Stadium next week.

Unfortunately for the Hammers, that’s exactly what happened when he viciously tackled Amine Adli during the first half at the Bay Arena.

Paqueta received an early warning for his challenge, with VAR even checking to see if it was a red card.

But while the midfielder escaped being sent off, he now knows he will miss the second leg at the London Stadium next Thursday.

Paqueta has been one of West Ham’s star players this season, having scored eight goals and contributed seven assists in all competitions.

With Xabi Alonso’s side posing a stern challenge, David Moyes will be frustrated at the prospect of playing the decider without one of his most important stars.
