West Bank attacker freed in hostage swap

A Jewish Israeli was shot and seriously injured Monday night in the West Bank city of Qalqiliya. Two Palestinians were also injured in the attack, and the terrorist was shot dead by Israeli forces.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces, the gunman opened fire near a car repair shop in the Palestinian Authority-controlled city. Israeli forces arrested the gunman on the outskirts of the city as he tried to flee.

The AP identified Tariq Daoud, 18, and said his body was being held by Israeli authorities. Hamas said he was a “field commander” in the terror group’s military wing.

Daoud was released from prison as part of last November’s ceasefire deal with the Gaza-based terror group, which saw the release of Palestinian security prisoners for Israeli civilians captured by Hamas in the October 7 attack.

Since his release, Israeli forces have raided his home numerous times and he immediately resumed his terrorist activities, according to Channel 14 reporter Hillel Biton Rosen.

Israelis are not allowed to enter areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority, but some do so anyway because prices for goods and services there are significantly lower than in Israel.

Amnon Muchtar, 66, from Petah Tikvah in central Israel, was shot dead in Qalqilya in June. The father of five owned a vegetable store and reportedly traveled to Qalqilya to buy produce.

“The Israeli army stresses that the entry of Israeli civilians into Area A is dangerous and prohibited by law,” the Israeli army said Monday evening.

On Sunday, Israeli Yonatan Deutsch, 23, from the town of Beit She’an, was assassinated in a terrorist shooting on Route 90 in the northern Jordan Valley.

The two latest attacks are part of a surge in terrorism since October 7. A total of 338 attacks have taken place since the start of the war, mainly in the West Bank.
