Don’t wait until the end of September to remember Green Day’s famous performance in Boston three decades ago.

Before the success of “American Idiot”, Green Day – then known for their debut studio album “Dookie” – played a free concert at the Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade in 1994 to celebrate the return of students to the city.

However, the situation quickly spiraled out of control and many called the incident a riot.

They played “Welcome to Paradise,” “Basket Case” and other songs before being stopped and ending the concert early when the crowd rushed the stage.

Dozens of people were arrested, WBZ reported at the time, and the reporter later called the band “the hyperactive problem children of punk rock.”

As the event approaches its 30th anniversary next week, we want to know: were you there? Tell us about that iconic 1994 show below, or email us at (protected email).
