Calls for Wendy Williams’ release grow louder as the beloved talk show host’s interviews with Don Lemon and Charlamagne Tha God are making the rounds on social media. In a January 16 article captioned: “Sabrina E. Morrissey takes advantage of Wendy Williams. She doesn’t have her freedom. This interview proves Wendy isn’t losing her mind,” TikToker @youdidnthearitfrommimi posted a clip from Wendy’s interview on “The Breakfast Club” in which she appears to be fully alert.
Williams’ heartbreaking situation also led to the creation of a GoFundMe to help support its fight for independence.
But one of the people who speaks the loudest is Wendy’s niece, Alex Finney. Just hours after his interview with Williams on January 16, Don Lemon spoke with Finney about Wendy’s condition.
Finney told Lemon that Wendy was speaking out now because she was desperate to break out of her current state of isolation and wanted to let as many people as possible know how bad things were.
“We have done everything we can to try to find a solution that allows him to live a dignified life, but it is not working,” she said.
Finney added that Williams was essentially confined in New York to a small apartment the size of a hotel room with just a television, a bathroom, a landline and a window. When pressed by Lemon, Finney said she doesn’t know if Wendy ultimately decided to move to her current location from a facility in Connecticut, but she knows she’s speaking out now because she’s trying desperate to get to Florida to be closer to family.
While Wendy’s court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has had ultimate control over every aspect of her aunt’s life since 2023, Finney says the rest of the family has been left on the outside looking in. Even though she has no idea how her aunt got into this situation, Finney says she’s doing everything she can to help her get out of it.
“I am heartbroken to see my aunt in this space and to see her literally desperate for someone to hear her and help her change the situation. This breaks my heart. The best thing we can do now is fight for and honor what she wants, which is to tell her story and start the conversation so she can move on from the situation. » she said.
