A WEF spokesperson said in the statement on Wednesday that the organization’s board of directors had “unanimously supported the decision of the audit and the risk committee to initiate an independent investigation following a letter of denunciation containing allegations against former President Klaus Schwab”.
They added: “This decision was made after consultation with an external legal advisor and in accordance with the forum’s fiduciary responsibilities. The survey will be carried out by the audit and risks committee with the support of independent legal experts.”
The WEF said that even if it took the allegations against Schwab “seriously”, they “remain unproven and await the outcome of the investigation to comment more”.
Schwab, who founded the WEF in 1971, announced its resignation as president and member of the board of directors on Monday, without explaining its decision more.
Although he resigned from his post as executive president last year, Schwab had planned to remain in a non -executive role until 2027. Instead, he resigned with immediate effect after a meeting of the emergency board held on Sunday.
