Volkswagen recently unveiled the ID.Buzz, its electric minivan that will arrive in the United States in 2024.
It’s a modern, electric version of VW’s iconic hippie bus.
We saw the ID.Buzz up close and toured its many awesome features.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled the ID.Buzz, a new all-electric version of its iconic Microbus.

The ID.Buzz takes Volkswagen’s basic hippie van design and updates it for the electric age. All in all, it makes minivans cool again.

The van has fake vents in the same place as the real ones in the original model.

Its front wheels are pushed far forward and its rear wheels are pushed all the way back, providing plenty of interior space. This is the European ID.Buzz. The US version will be longer and add a third line.

And a high roof and square shape means there’s plenty of room inside for people and things. At 6-foot-1, I settle into the back seat with tons of headroom.

Modern touches include a horizontal light bar that extends across the back of the pickup.

There is a diamond pattern on the front of the ID.Buzz which is carried over throughout the interior.

Looks like a place where kids would really have fun. And there are plenty of nooks and USB-C ports for sticking small items and charging devices.

If you ride in the back seat, you get a tablet and a handy cell phone pocket above.

The ID.Buzz also brings a lot of utility to the front passengers. There is a nook above the glove box that would be perfect for a wallet, glasses, or other small items.

The ID.Buzz gets the same screen layout as Volkswagen’s ID.4 SUV, consisting of a small screen for the driver and a larger touchscreen for things like the radio.

The driver sits high up, and it looks like there would be good visibility thanks to the large windows and short hood of the pickup.

The driver and front passenger also get armrests, an underrated comfort feature that should be present in more vehicles.

A special feature: the central console is removable. VW says that’s because some customers have said they’d like to move to the back seat from the driver’s seat.

Two dividers in the center console also serve as an ice scraper and bottle opener.

As expected, the ID.Buzz does not lack cargo space, especially when folding the rear seats. An optional feature brings the load floor flush with the folded seats, allowing owners to fit an air mattress.

The hatch is tall enough to stand under, which could be ideal for camping or tailgating.

Volkswagen has also filled the ID.Buzz with little quirks and Easter eggs that provide no benefit besides being fun and cute.

Look closely and you’ll see little ID.Buzz renditions everywhere. Here is one in relief in an armrest.

If you’re a fan of all that cuteness and you live in the US, you’ll have to wait a bit. The ID.Buzz commercial and passenger models will go on sale in Europe later this year, but they won’t hit US shores until 2024.
